THIS IS HOW YOU BEHAVE DURING A FAMILY WEEKEND

And then a week was exchanged New York Fashion week for me was traded for a weekend at the beach. A weekend that is organized once every five years, so there is no doubt about whether to attend or not. It is also really fun. I mean this, because I have an incredibly nice in-laws. But still. It remains exciting and after those days you are completely exhausted. Especially when the weekend consists of more than 50 people and you still want to leave a good impression. I am certainly not the only one who has a family weekend in big letters in her agenda. So here it is: this is how you behave as an ideal daughter-in-law.

– Give yourself a task. Then you have something to do. I also find it more fun and easier to chat with family when I am busy with something. That is different than sitting across from each other with a cup of tea. I chose to cook, duh. I know how to do that, you immediately have a nice conversation (about cooking) and you are also busy for a while (especially for such a large group). The fun part is that people come in and out a bit.
– Not a good cook (I can hardly imagine)? Then take a look in the kitchen to offer some help. Chopping, washing, stirring, baking… something.

– In general, you are doing well if you ask if you can help with something. Setting the table, pouring wine, cutting, gluing, looking for the card game. Something! Make yourself useful.

– By the way, you don’t even have to ask all the time. Help clear the table, do some dishes in between, or walk around with a platter of snacks. Your mother-in-law will think you are amazing.

– Go over the family with your boyfriend beforehand. You really don’t have to remember all the names at once, but it is always good to ask about something someone has experienced, for example. Show that you are informed and interested.

– Now you might prefer to stay in bed on Sunday at home, but at family weekend you set an alarm and are on time for breakfast. In fact: set that alarm earlier and help with frying eggs.

– Hello, we are mainly talking about scoring points here, right.

-       Suggest a game that is fun to do. Cards, the Great Names Game, dropping, Werewolves… Take the initiative.

– Bring something tasty. Something to share with coffee, for example. Chocolate, homemade cookies, or buy something from a good baker.

– Send a card to your boyfriend's parents afterwards and thank them for the nice weekend. Well, if you haven’t scored ten thousand points now, I don’t know what else to say.
