Today a Guilty Pleasures with fashion designer Josh Veldhuizen. What is her biggest pointless irritation, which movie does she keep crying over, and which filler word does she really need to stop using? We’re about to find out…
What is your most used excuse?
“The traffic in Amsterdam is such a drama, it was really beyond my control.’ Deep down, I should have known by now that I need to leave the office or home 15 minutes earlier.”
Which movie, TV show, or series makes you cry every time?
“In the movie My Sister’s Keeper, in Intouchables, even in All You Need is Love, and I could name another 20 movies or shows. I’m secretly quite emotional, but only when no one is around of course ;-).”
Your ultimate guilty pleasure?
“Salty popcorn.”
What would people really not expect from you?
“I’m really very sweet. At least, that’s what people almost always say when they meet me for the first time or get to know me. Apparently, I sometimes come across as unfriendly. No idea why.”
What bad music do you secretly enjoy?
“I don’t really have a distinct taste in music, I can appreciate different styles, from classical music to Justin Bieber. Nowadays, you can just admit it: Yes, I’m a Belieber.”
Quote: “I have absolutely no sense of direction, but I do everything to hide this.”
Do you have an obsession?
“Cleaning up. Everything always has to be neat; my house, my wardrobe, my office, otherwise I really only function halfway!”
What is your strangest trait?
“I have no sense of direction at all, but I do everything to hide this.”
What is your secret hobby?
“Styling my boyfriend. He already has a bizarrely good sense of fashion, but I really enjoy shopping for outfits with him. Even more fun than shopping for myself, is that weird?”
What is your biggest pointless irritation?
“Stuck in traffic in Amsterdam. I know it in advance and there’s nothing you can do about it, but I still get annoyed by it regularly. That’s why I avoid rush hour, I’d much rather stay longer at the office than be stuck on the way home.”
And in terms of food? What do you secretly eat on the couch that you really shouldn’t?
“Here it comes again: salty microwave popcorn. Very occasionally, but that makes it extra delicious when I do have it. It’s also nice that your whole house smells like it at that moment, ahem…‘
Which word do you actually use just a little too often?
“’Yes’. I say ‘yes’ way too often. I’m getting better at saying ‘no’ to people. Sometimes I also say ‘yes’ just to get rid of something, even unconsciously. “Josh, what time will you be there?” – “YES”. “Josh, should I schedule that meeting for tomorrow or the day after?” – “YES”. No one benefits if you say ‘yes’ but do ‘no’. But I’m working on it.”
