My irritations in and from the hospitality industry

I need to get something off my chest. It has something to do with hospitality and I'm a complainer because I went to hotel school, so I'm more selective and quickly know how everything should be done and how it can be better. My company can sometimes get annoyed by the fact that I'm not paying attention to the conversation, but mainly observing the service and making comments about it. – If there is no pepper mill available, only powder.

– In general, I find a salt and pepper shaker on the table medium.

– If someone is squatting at the table while taking an order.

– Being ridiculously active with refilling. Don't let me notice that you have bet who sells the most wine.

– A blazer (or whatever you call it); a hand dryer instead of paper to dry your hands.

– We're still in the bathroom: such a toilet Tork roll where only one piece of paper tears off at a time.

– Saying ‘HI’ very enthusiastically when you walk in, but then having to wait a long time before an order is taken.

– Staff should not be eating.

– A front door that remains open continuously so that it drafts.

– Be careful with touches on shoulders and such.

– If I cannot make a reservation due to a private party. A restaurant should always be open and not closed every now and then because the whole space is rented out. I don't like that. Parties and events should be held in a party center or on the days when the restaurant is closed. Recently, I wanted to make a reservation at one of the trendiest restaurants in Amsterdam (I won't name names), but that wasn't possible due to a party. Then I'm done. If a restaurant is already full with reservations, that's of course a different story.

– Nothing is worse than having to wave a lot to get the attention of the staff. Especially when you see that the staff is talking to each other.

– Well, now you probably think I'm an incredibly whiny person. Sorry not so sorry.
