HELP, I'M PREGNANT! AND WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
No sweetie, I'm obviously not pregnant. I'm too old and well-prepared. But many visitors to our lovely site are indeed ‘expecting’ and email me with the question: What should I wear? As a mother of three, you would expect that I have a bit of knowledge about this by now.
1. Victoria Beckham's tip
There will surely be good pants among them, but I spontaneously broke out in a rash from those pregnancy jeans. You know, the ones with a wide band that you could pull over your belly. I have the ultimate tip for you. And I got that from Victoria Beckham. Put two little triangles of elastic on the sides of your own jeans. This way, your own jeans stretch nicely and you have a cool pair of jeans (with button and zipper) throughout your entire pregnancy without that frumpy band.
2. Avoid belly bands and jingling necklaces
I was overjoyed with my pregnancy, but I also wanted to stay cool. I had to promise my friends never to buy a cargo bike (I've stuck to that, although I think, don't tell anyone, that such a full cargo bike always looks very cozy and comfortable) and I solemnly swore never to cut my hair. To increase the cool factor, I steered clear of belly bands, jingling necklaces, and everything else that screams look-at-me-I'm-a-happy-mother.
3. No A-line
Everyone thinks that an A-line is the model when you're pregnant, but I don't agree. With that A-line, you don't actually see that you're pregnant, and the attention is mainly drawn to your existing breasts and round arms. An A-line is nice if you're ultra-slim. In case of pregnancy, I think it's better to wear tight clothing like the tube dress from Wolford. At least you still see a bit of shape here and there. With the A-line, everything goes straight down.
4. Long live the poncho
If you want to hide your belly for a moment, you better choose a poncho. It also falls straight down, but doesn't come together so tightly under your breasts like the A-line. Cute jeans (with those triangles on the sides, tight shirt made of thick elastic fabric on top, poncho, and you're done.
5. No heels?
I walked around in heels for a long time but eventually bought a pair of ballerinas (from Chanel... To comfort myself with my heel-less existence). Now I would definitely recommend cute sneakers or a wedge sneaker so you still gain a bit of height. I also think comfortable high boots like the Shabbies from Fred de la Bretoniere are a great idea. A fitted dress over it and you're done.
6. Tops from Noppies
I'm a bit allergic to maternity labels myself, but the tops from Noppies... I still wear them. They don't have a built-in belly or other frumpiness, but are just nice and long so they fit over your entire belly. But I still love long tops. Especially during that time of the month.
7. If you're at it anyway
Then also buy a few pairs of underwear from Noppies. With a high waist. They are especially really nice when you've just given birth and spend your days with flabby skin and TENA Lady. Sorry,I can't make it any nicer. Just a bit better dressed.
