Amayzine

Here I am

‘Do you want to be the new health editor of Amayzine?’ was the title of a new chapter in my life. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the first message from May-Britt and Jet. As a diehard Amayzine fan, this was really something. Me, a girl from Maastricht (where you can do a lot of fun things like this), with a passion for sports and nutrition and a big heart for writing couldn't be happier than receiving such a message. And I was just in between jobs too.

‘Do you want to be the new health editor of Amayzine?’ was the title of a new chapter in my life.

The person who pushed me towards May-Britt is the sales director of Amayzine whom I ‘coincidentally’ (but hey, what is coincidence in this life?) married seven years ago. That was in another life where I was a wedding planner (just like this lady by the way). Boring and the same are words that don't really occur in my career. I changed jobs, places of residence, and countries quite often.

For three years, I commuted between Washington DC and Maastricht because I felt the need to choose Mr. Right 7000 kilometers away. Not very handy, but hey, you fall in love, so what can you do about it? I traveled after him as much as possible and we had our emotional Hello Goodbye moment every six weeks. Our perfect middle ground became London where he moved for work, which was just a bit closer to Maastricht.

London. My happy place… Where the Brits always address you as ‘my dear’, you get the best soy lattes on earth, and a scone is always on the menu. I could easily handle that because in London I casually walked twenty-five kilometers through the city every day.

Mr. Right became, with a lot of sadness, Mr. Ex and so it happened that I suddenly found myself back in my hometown. I picked up my life, set the alarm clock to seven in the morning (yes, even on my day off) and I quickly became a well-known figure in the new gym because I was there so early (namely at ten past seven) and so often.

People often ask me if I really enjoy exercising (yes sorry, really) and if I don't secretly prefer to eat pastries instead of broccoli florets. But, don’t shoot me, I just really love healthy and tasty food. Although I also don’t say no to a good brownie, it’s not that bad after all.

Apparently, those things that others sometimes don’t quite understand were exactly the reason why May wanted me alongside Jet as the happy & healthy editor.

And now, four weeks later, I walk into the office with my bowl of chicken and broccoli, where the fresh ginger tea is already waiting for me, and I am introduced to all the über-cool ladies of the editorial team. Even my first press trip is already on the agenda. Oh, and did I mention that I moved to Amsterdam this weekend?

What am I going to bring you? All my experiences as a newborn (single) Amsterdammer (confession: I had never lived here before), my healthy favorites (which by the way are not just green, with an ice-cold glass of Chardonnay and a huge cheese platter you make me even happier), workout tips, and much more…

By the way, my cup will stay at home from now on because they serve the best salads for lunch here. It really seems like I have found my new happy place.

I’m looking forward to it and I hope you are too. If you want to email me with questions or requests, you can do so at Simone@amayzine.com.

welcoming a new editor

‘Want to be one of the health editors for Amayzine?’ was the title of a new chapter in my life. My heart did a little leap when this message popped up from May-Britt.
