HOW IS YOUR THIRD LIFE?

We can all no longer live without our smartphone and want (have to!) be continuously reachable. Many people lead a kind of third life with the help of their phone. Perhaps a secret third life. A life containing things that the people around you better not know. This was the inspiration for director Paolo Genovese, who writes one of the film hits of 2016 with his Italian tragicomedy ‘Perfetti Sconosciuti’.

The story in a nutshell: a group of friendly couples comes together for a cozy dinner. While enjoying a good glass of wine, they show how sharing your phone secrets of different sizes can cause a lot of commotion. The group agrees that every message or phone call will be read aloud (oh hell, hell!) and handled on speakerphone. An innocent game that is not received with enormous enthusiasm by everyone, and later in the evening also causes gigantic problems.

Anyways, really go see this movie! And now that we're talking about it, how is your third life actually? Are you sitting late at night typing next to your partner on the couch or do you secretly go to the bathroom when a message comes in? Is your WhatsApp set up so that you can see what is in your incoming message on your home screen or does only the name of the sender appear? Is your phone on silent 24/7, maybe even off as soon as you get home, or does it beep non-stop? Do you always keep it in your bag or do you also leave it lying around the house?

Oh, and now I am talking about you, but maybe you are actually doubting the sincerity of your partner. In that case, you know what you need to do during that planned friends' dinner.
