MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION FOR A MOMENT?

This is our new editor

And then suddenly there was the day we announced that our dear Jet was leaving our white nest (do you want to cry along with my farewell letter? or withJet's ?). Probably very unexpected for you, I had already gotten used to the idea for a few weeks. Tears flowed and dried, and above all, we made new plans for the future. I scoured Instagram, held office in trendy juice bars, and even took the train twice, all to discover that perfect new editor. When I saw it gloomy, I glanced to the left at the desk block opposite me. There she was. As always dazzlingly beautiful in her boyfriend jeans with her 'Oui, je suis Roitfeld' shirt while telling me a US entertainment news story and also asking if I might want some coffee.

I’m going to ask her one more time, I thought. If necessary, beg. Because you should know that I had previously been eyeing Elke, our translator for the international version of Amayzine, but she had hesitated a bit. Elke has lived abroad for almost her entire life (among other places in the house where Intouchables was filmed, are we jealous?), which makes her English better than her Dutch and made her a bit insecure about her writing style in our language. Completely unjustified, because her pieces were incredibly well-received, but that feeling lived within her and I couldn't take it away.

Fortunately, that turned out to be temporary, because when I asked again, Elke said in her best Dutch: 'Let’s give it a shot.' Hereby, I proudly and joyfully crown Elke Wijnands as your new Amayzine editor.

To get to know her even better, we have prepared a petite questionnaire with 11 life questions, some more important than others.

Dear Elke, take it away.

1. What is one thing that every woman must try at least once in her life?.

Maybe not entirely fair because I grew up this way, but I genuinely believe that every woman (and man) should live abroad at least once. And I’m not talking about a six-month internship in Curaçao or something. Pack your bags and spend a year in Paris or Stockholm, or even further away. Learn the language of the country, immerse yourself in its history; become one with the locals. You get to know yourself so much better when you do this.

2. What makes you the happiest?.

The moment there are pepernoten available in the Appie again. And that I manage to hold off buying them until December.

3. What is the best advice you have ever received?.

'Educate yourself.' Short, but powerful.

‘4. What books can we find in your bookshelf?.

Way too many that I still need to read. But a tip from me for you if you like rock music: read Bruce Springsteen's book ('Born to Run'). My love for his music and lyrics has only grown.

5. What are the last three things you paid for?.

According to my last three receipts, they are from Albert Heijn. Anyway, if you look at my debits, 80% has something to do with food. Unfortunately, I can't make it more exciting. But none of that superfood bullshit, I’m

team bottom drift (together with Kiki). 6. Which piece of clothing in your closet do you wear the most?.

I’m currently living in my new lammy jacket. My goal this winter is to become a lifesize teddy bear. The more cuddles, the better.

7. Who is on your ultimate dinner party guest list?.

All the men Taylor Swift has ever dated. To find out if 'America’s sweetheart' is really a 'sweetheart', because I’m not buying it, Tay.

8. Biggest guilty pleasure?.

'There’s nothing guilty about pleasure.' I learned this when I once

‘interviewed Lisa Hilton in London. And she’s right. Although my uncanny obsession with bad reality shows like the American 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette' isn’t really something I share during first dates. 9. Which quote characterizes how you approach life?.

'Always keep the rhythm in your feet and a little party in your shoulders.' Thank you, Phil Dunphy, for this. Haven’t you watched Modern Family yet? Shame on you.

‘10. Do you have a hidden talent?.

Rapping. At least, I think so. Especially when there’s wine and gin and tonic involved.

11. What is still on your bucket list?.

I wanted to say going to New York for Fashion Week with May, but hey, let me just say I already did that last September.
