IT REMAINS DIFFICULT: HOW DO YOU BOARD THE PLANE FASHIONABLY?

Last week I had my most hectic flying adventure ever. From Amsterdam to Iceland, then on to Chicago, back to Iceland and then back to Amsterdam. And I can tell you: choosing a plane outfit four times gives a person STRESS.

Until a few years ago, I didn't do ‘plane outfits’. I would casually go to the airport in a pencil skirt and ridiculously high heels. Just because that was my style and maybe also as a kind of resistance against the uninspiring, comfortable flight outfits. I don't know why, but when I think of ‘easy travel clothing’, I see an African blouse, Jesus sandals, and a faded linen pant in front of me. Fortunately, I have realized that there is also a middle ground between the Jesus sandal and the exaggerated Airport Lipstick Lady.

And that's why: 7 tips to look comfortable and yet fashionable. Because yes, it is possible, people. Really.

1. Tie something nice around your neck

The dullest flight outfit can be completely upgraded with a nice scarf. Miranda Kerr, Selena Gomez, and Blake Lively have already discovered the airport scarf.

2. The long, flowing skirt

It looks more stylish and is much more comfortable than tight jeans, especially on long flights. Just make sure it's not a mega-wrinkly fabric, because that would be a shame.

3. The white blouse always looks fresh

Victoria Beckham (who was recently named most stylish traveler) wears the white blouse all the time at the airport. Also pay attention to the fabric here, because there is a risk of wrinkles. Trousers underneath (also much more comfortable than jeans) and you're airport-proof.

4. Celebrity zonnebrillen

Some may find it exaggerated, but if you don't feel like wearing makeup during a long flight, you can definitely wear nice sunglasses at the airport, it looks cool with your outfit too. And upon arrival, you can immediately hide your tired eyes behind them, practical and stylish.

5. Bring a large chic bag

A nice bag does complete your travel outfit a bit. Try to stick to one bag, because otherwise your look will still be messy. So no plastic bags or backpacks. Unless it's this little backpack that is allowed.

6. Now about those flat shoes...

Because we can agree that flying in heels (especially if you retain water) is not really a good idea. Go for a trendy loafer instead. Simple flip-flops are forbidden, chic flip-flops are definitely allowed. Ballerinas are actually a bit forbidden again. Do you get it?

7. Upgrade your look with your suitcase

I have I often have a suitcase with me, that it now feels like an extension of my arm. And that extension should be a bit cool. In a crazy pink color, or with flamingos, or something else eye-catching. That boring gray suitcase you can leave with, uh, your grandma.
