KIKI'S WINTER WHERE ABOUTS

Part 2

Just admit it. It's okay, I do it too. Since the whole month of December started, you've been out of sorts. Fatigue sets in, you have little energy and actually want to binge-watch Netflix all day with a blanket over your head and eat calorie-rich food. Suffering from a winter slump? I am. And every year more than 500,000 people in the Netherlands do too. Fortunately, the world is wide and there are always tropical summer spots where it’s nice to hang out in the winter. Are you bringing the sunscreen?

Madagascar, Africa

You like to move it, move it? Every time I hear the name of this island, I can't help but think of the animated film Madagascar from 2005. Anyway, this is a spot on our globe where we all would love to ‘move’ to. One moment you’re here in typical African vibes, while a few kilometers away it feels just like Asia. If you head to the island during the European summer, you might just find yourself in 20 degrees. Not bad, but it could be better, right? And that’s why it’s so nice to visit the island between November and March. Then the temperature averages between 25 and 30 degrees. Here and there, there might be a heavy shower, but if you choose the south or southwest (the driest area of the island), you can count on a shining sun during your winter escape. If you’re a fan of unique wild animals, you can do a little happy dance in Madagascar. On the fourth largest island in the world, you’ll find over 250,000 (!) endangered species that don’t occur anywhere else. In Ranomafana National Park, for example, you can spot lemurs, sifakas, and bamboo lemurs. What? Yes, unique little creatures that stare at you with big cute eyes. Not in the mood for a safari? Then just park your butt on the paradisiacal bounty beach? Or you go to Nosy Bee. This is also called the perfume island because of all the exotic flowers that grow there. It’s said to always be nice weather here. I tell you: bye bye, winter slump.
