LENNY KRAVITZ HAS JUST BEEN ON RAW FOOD FOR 7 MONTHS

Lenny Kravitz has just been on raw food for seven months, he made clear on his Facebook. SEVEN MONTHS OF COLD FOOD. Man, I can't even think about it, but yes, if I have to believe Lenny, it was the best time of his life and had a huge positive effect on his physical and mental state. Plus the planet. I decided to dive into it for a moment to discover why it could be good for you. I’m focusing on the real diehard raw eaters, as they come in different degrees (sometimes food can be heated up to 40 degrees, sometimes it can only be eaten cold and more of that sort of thing). What Lenny did? Really cold cold cold! A few days of pure and raw eating can be seen as a kind of detox and I won’t immediately dismiss that, but seven months?

What is raw food actually?

You only eat food that has not been cooked, baked, steamed, or fried. Cold, therefore. That means: a lot of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and grains. As long as it hasn’t been heated.

But why then?

According to diehard raw foodies, the body of someone who does not eat raw food would become acidic. This could lead to many diseases. Eating raw food would help achieve a slim body and prevent or cure chronic diseases. Cooked food would be bad, toxic, and addictive and would actually cause chronic diseases. Raw food contains enzymes and microbacteria that would be destroyed in heated food. These enzymes and microbacteria are good for metabolism and help the immune system. ‘After all, the primitive man never ate cooked food. It was only much later that we learned to make fire.’ So that.

“After all, the primitive man never ate cooked food. It was only much later that we learned to make fire.” So that.

And what does the Nutrition Center think about this?

Well, they do not strongly recommend this way of eating. ‘One-sided nutrition is never healthy. The supposed benefits do not outweigh the disadvantages. While a diet consisting solely of raw food may exclude overweight, it ultimately leads to malnutrition and chronic deficiencies. Moreover, it is a misconception to assume that raw food provides more nutrients to the body than cooked vegetables. On the contrary: by cooking vegetables, the cell walls break open, allowing the body to digest them better and absorb the nutrients more effectively,’ according to the Nutrition Center. Let's at least agree that if you plan to eat raw for a while because you're curious about how it is (I can understand that), you should do it under supervision and ensure that you don't miss any important nutrients.

So, now we are a bit wiser. And now I'm going to turn on the stove for a nice spicy warm pumpkin soup. Because cold food in this weather? Not for me!
