15x what I learned from living together
Do you remember that I moved in together? And that that Ikea cabinet didn't fit, but then it did again? And that I broke down in a hardware store (absolutely do not do this)? And that I carefully made all his stuff disappear from the house? Well, that's all behind us now and we lived happily ever after, because we are already over ten months in and still have a great time together. But… of course, I had to get used to it too. And I definitely learned something from the past time. Namely this:
The joint account is actually always empty.
- It is very important to also make plans outside together. A quick cup of coffee around the corner or taking a walk together is something I should do more often. You live, especially in busy times, very quickly a bit past each other.
- There is suddenly always chips in the house.
- Dividing tasks is not necessary at all. It goes as it goes and if something annoys you, you say it IMMEDIATELY. Or you write it down on a note. That is sometimes easier.
- A large, good, comfortable sofa is very important.
- You really don't have to do everything together.
- Hiring a cleaner is a very smart idea.
- I still have to.
- often hold back a burp. It is important to also go away alone sometimes. A few days away with friends or visiting family, for example. Spending time apart is also important. It is essential to sometimes close a door behind you to be alone. So make sure there is a door in the house.
- Who does the laundry? Probably you, yes.
- My partner turns out to be an incredibly good handyman.
- We now always do the walk to the glass and paper bins together very civilly.
- I am actually the only one who really makes a mess. That is confronting. So I learn to be tidier. When I am alone for a moment, I immediately start cleaning up.
- Finally: it has been a mega amazing super choice.
