Marie Claire in Malibu
For four weeks now, I have been diligently logging what I eat and drink every day on my Fitness Pal app. It is truly amazing to be aware of what you eat, and it’s not so much about whether it’s a sandwich or a bowl of muesli, but rather about which nutrients you are actually getting. We have so much choice at every meal that a wrong choice can be made quickly. But what is wrong? I discovered through the app that I am getting way too little protein and that I am taking in many more carbohydrates than necessary. Now that I exercise almost every day, I am hungrier and need to pay extra attention not to quickly choose the wrong things. For example, I hardly eat meat or fish. I have been a vegetarian for a large part of my life and do eat it now, but I am convinced that if we all ate meat a maximum of once a week and fish once a week, it would be much better for the environment.

I would like to stick to this, so that one time organic chicken and salmon should be fine. But what do you eat to get enough protein? Here in Malibu, it is very trendy to buy a protein shake at the juice bar. Everyone is slurping from a cup before or after exercising. And Matcha tea is also consumed a lot here. That is Japanese green tea powder that you can drink dissolved in hot water or add to your shake. I don’t find that very tasty, so I started looking further. I want to eat delicious food and look forward to a meal. What was recommended to me was hüttenkäse, or cottage cheese as they call it here. An extremely protein-rich, quark-like cheese that you can eat both savory and sweet. And what a revelation that was for me. I had heard of it, but had never really tried it. But man, is it delicious. In a salad for example or on a cracker with radishes or tomato. But it’s also very tasty with strawberries and berries. This way, I eat myself deliciously slim and fit. I can keep this up for a while.
