The Box Bag by Céline

Episode two of my new column that serves to brush up on fashion knowledge and also works perfectly as a wish list. At least, if you have friends, fathers, partners, and bosses with a credit card that can take a hit.

For today, I chose an item that makes my heart race with total greed when I see someone walking with it. Like Renate Verbaan recently during a trip to Capri. It doesn't get more classy than this. This bag, which breathes class and, sorry, also money, because it is quite pricey. It's just so beautiful, otherwise I would call it scandalous.

What is it?

A bag from the classic French fashion house Céline. Small in size, recognizable only to connoisseurs. No loud labels, but the finest leather and a simple yet recognizable closure for those in the know. It fits perfectly with the motto of my chic French friend, who always says: ‘Money talks, style whispers.’.

Who made it?

It already existed, but when Phoebe Philo became creative director of Céline, she gave the Box Bag a bit of a hip makeover. The flap was slightly extended and the closure changed to this oh-so-subtle version.

How much does it cost?

A lot. Really, quite a lot. The medium Box is available for a modest 2900 euros. But well, then you will always be received with a bow as a sign of admiration by fashion people.

Who wears it?

Well, Renate Verbaan does, and journalist Eva Hoeke has also succumbed to this showpiece (food for many columns, because her chain-smoking husband obviously understood nothing of this).
