7 THINGS MAY LEARNED IN CAPRI
About a week ago, I was biking with my neighbor across the street and told her that I had to go to Capri for work. “What are you going to do there?” she asked. It’s useful to mention that she is a lawyer and therefore does not settle for hesitant answers. When I replied that I actually didn’t know, she stopped biking. I went on a TRIP (yes, now you have to raise your voice seven octaves) and I didn’t know why? She understood nothing at all.
But the trip was organized by Danie and when Danie asks me something, I quickly say yes. Why? Well this is why for example. But also because the other partner was Glamour and there were a lot of fun women going along (Renate Gerschtanowitz, Fatima Moreiro de Melo, soccer player Anouk Hoogendijk, actress Bo Maerten, Lizzy van der Ligt, and Sabrina Meijer) and ah, Capri is not exactly the most unpleasant place in the world to spend two days. My critical neighbor began to understand. She mumbled something about ‘bad profession’ and ‘that’s just how it is’, but we continued biking and in my head, I quickly counted how many nights I was going to stay.
In the meantime, I just woke up in my fourteen-meter-long (I personally measured it this morning) suite and slept with a Starskin mask on my face. Soon I have a little workout in the spa. After that, there are pool sessions on the agenda where my task is to finally climb onto that annoying inflatable flamingo. A sight to behold, that creature, but climbing on it or staying seated, they should come up with a workout around that.
I am surrounded by fun women here, so I have already picked up some handy tips for the fashion life here and I share them. That’s just me.
1. The bags from HEMA
Okay, my first tip might seem a bit awkward and sounds mercilessly unsexy, but if I tell you that you can take three times as much luggage with you because of it, you’ll be sold. Sabrina Meijer (from intoIT) gets vacuum bags there where she puts her clothes in. Then she sucks the air out with a vacuum cleaner and voilà, suddenly the entire contents of your closet can go on the trip. Just check if your hotel has a vacuum cleaner for the return trip, otherwise, you’ll have a problem.
2. The jeans and the bread knife
Again from Sabrina who has such a nice messy pair of jeans. “I just cut them myself,” was her answer. “With a bread knife. Then it gets so nicely messy.” I would say; Do try this at home.

3. This is possible
There is a camera (from the friends at Nikon) that you can also use underwater. Up to thirty meters even. Seems sufficient to me, because I can’t go much further in life. It also has ‘something’ (no idea what to call it: addition? Application? Thingy?) that allows you to transfer the photos from your camera to your mobile without cords and hassle, so you can immediately post them on Instagram.
4. The best glow sticks
Among us is also makeup artist Dominique Samuels (you know, this the nice one who does so well in New York) and when I’m out with a makeup artist, I want to know everything of course. Aside from the fact that I’ve become addicted to VISINE to mask my red eyes (we had a pretty early flight, so little sleep resulting in red eyes), I also want his secret glow sticks. They come in all kinds and flavors resulting in a fresher face (rhymes), less bags under the eyes, and they also show a clearer bone structure. What you should order is: the Madina stick, the KIKO Stick, or the one from Maybelline or Sonia Kashuk.
5. Il Riccio
If you’re going to Capri soon (and why not? It’s a two-hour flight to Naples and then another half hour by boat), go eat at Il Riccio. Danie dined here during her wedding. It’s beautifully blue and white, the waiters dance with joy, you eat lobster, risotto, squid, and everything is equally fresh. There are mini terraces, there’s a rooftop, there’s a little staircase down where you can step onto your boat, and there’s a sweet room with a hundred cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and colored marshmallows…

6. Shopping with Renate is a party
After scouring some nice local shops, we ‘just had to’ go to Gucci. Italian, so also kind of local after all. When we walked in, we realized that Renate was wearing both a Gucci dress and Gucci loafers. And the Box Bag from Céline worked, of course, like a red rag to a bull. Did we mainly want something to drink? Champagne maybe? We stuck to a Pellegrino because we were way too busy trying on the pumps, the painted espadrilles, and the belts. I went for the espadrilles. Did I maybe want a bag to go with that? And she didn’t mean the cardboard shopping bag. After an hour in which we wanted to have everything and actually bought something, we walked out of the store like a walking fan club. Today we’ll probably go back for the encore.
7. Fatima can really sing beautifully
Do you remember, that ‘how well she can play hockey, that girl’? We had to laugh hard, but it wasn’t really funny of course. That every time you want to sing along, there’s someone who makes that joke. Or makes; repeats. But now Fatima participated in ‘It Takes 2’ and dares again. And I can tell you from a reliable source (namely myself); that girl can sing.
Now I’m diving into the morning workout (because that is apparently good for people) and I’m opening the gate to new adventures. More tomorrow.
