My life in a bag
met Marlieke Koks
This beautiful bag is from an equally beautiful girl named Marlieke Koks. You already know her from the fashion and food website Cotton & Cream. And now also from the most beautiful bags. Curious about this beauty? Read on.
How many bags do you have?
‘As long as I can remember, I have been a bag addict. In the past, I had an exaggeratedly large collection of bags in all colors of the rainbow and I couldn't throw anything away. A few years ago, I really cleaned up. Now I go for quality instead of quantity and I have about 15 bags left.’
What is the story behind this bag?
‘The motto ‘work hard, play hard’ is literally written on my body. When I achieve something I am proud of, I treat myself to something beautiful. And in recent years, that has usually been in the form of a designer bag. It is a long-term investment and I find it a special thought that you have worked hard for it. It also carries a story with it. That’s why I lovingly expand the bag family (and eat a few days of sandwiches with peanut butter for it…) and later pass them on to my daughter if she ever comes. I also gifted myself this bright red Valentino Lock Bag after a year of hard work.’
How do you handle your bag?
‘I am careful with my “beautiful” bags like this one from Valentino, I even call them my babies. Before I take it with me, I think about how likely it is to rain or if I might spontaneously end up in a pub that evening. When there is a big scratch or stain on my bag, I can really cry.‘
What about the content?
‘The contents of my bag are – just like with almost every woman – usually a mess, haha. Loose hair ties, coins, and business cards. I often switch bags, so I try to tidy things up a bit in between. And I make sure that the inside of the bag always stays clean and nice.’
What do you always have with you?
‘I usually don’t leave the house without an extra charger for my phone. I go crazy when I can’t be online. In addition, I always have lipstick and a bottle of nail polish with me (red, always good) for a pre-dinner touch-up.’
What do you think are the best features of a bag?
‘The ideal bag for me is a bit classic and chic, so it gives every outfit – even with ripped jeans and sneakers – a stylish boost. Like a Chanel 2.55 does excellently. And preferably in black or a bright color. Moreover, the bag must be big enough. The Wallet on a Chain is really too small for daily use, so I only take it to a dinner or party, as it just fits a lipstick and an iPhone.’
Which one is still on your wishlist?
‘Phew, that’s a lot! I find the Chloé Drew Bag beautiful in a pastel color and besides that, I want a nice crossbody from Saint Laurent.’
