these were the highlights
Every year a lot happens, a whole lot during the The Grammy Awards. The most important music award in the world is presented in Los Angeles and that's why I was glued to the TV last night, waiting for a great moment, an awkward situation, a hysterically ugly dress, or a totally inappropriate bitchfight moment. The music industry is a tough one, let's just say.
And yes, luckily my prayers were answered and I can now make a list of the best, nicest, and above all remarkable moments for you. Because at the Grammys, you can color outside the (tattoo) lines, everyone knows that, right Lady Gaga?
1. Taylor Swift was the big winner
First things first: Taylor won three awards with her album “1989”; for best vocal album, best album, and best music video. Ed Sheeran won in the category of song of the year. Rapper Kendrick Lamar also scored big with five (!) Grammys. Dammit.
2. Lady Gaga goes Bowie
Lady Gaga paid tribute to the recently deceased legend David Bowie. To emphasize her words even more, she got a Bowie tattoo on her side a day before the show. And not a small one either.
3. Dutch successes
The Dutch Metropole Orchestra also has a Grammy in the pocket. Together with the American band Snarky Puppy, they won the award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for the album ‘Sylvia.’ The orchestra has been nominated 17 times before. Oh, and DJ Tiësto can also count himself lucky with an award.
4. Taylor snaps back at Kanye
No Grammys are complete without underwater jabs. During her acceptance speech, Taylor seems to point to a line from a new song by Kanye West. In the song ‘Famous,’ the overconfident man of Kim K. raps that he is responsible for Taylor's fame. I quote: “I feel like Taylor and I might still have sex. I made that bitch famous.” Crazy guy, that Kanye. Taylor responds back and says during her acceptance speech: “There will always be people who say they are responsible for someone’s fame…” Go get him, Swift.
5. We are all even more in love with Justin (and mini-Justin) now
The cutest ever: Justin Bieber brings his little brother Jaxon to the Grammys. And KISSES him on the red carpet. Melt. Melt. MELT.
6. Adele sings off-key
It went completely silent in the hall when Adele hit a few wrong notes during her song ‘All I Ask.’ Yes, people, the always pitch-perfect Adele can apparently also sing off-key. It was clearly due to a technical error, and Twitter was quick to criticize the sound engineer. Also to Rihanna, by the way, who was supposed to sing ‘Kiss is Better’ live but didn’t show up at the last minute due to a little flu.
7. Johnny Depp goes wild
Johnny Depp performed with his band The Hollywood Vampires. Does anyone even know that? Or am I the only one here? I thought it was fantastic anyway.
8. Whut, no Beyoncé on the red carpet?
Yep, Queen B was nowhere to be found. Fans were disappointed. But, the real diehard late-night stayers were rewarded at the end: Bey came to present an award at the last minute. In a wedding dress from the new collection of bridal designer Inbal Dror, folks. That woman knows how to make an entrance.
