Moments when I feel very grown-up

They are quite rare. But, they do exist. And sometimes it seems as if being an adult is very easy and possible for everyone.

When I make my bed

When I buy flowers

I had already talked extensively about this, to be precise. Flowers in my house make me feel like I have everything under control.

When I put a curl on a paid bill

When I know numbers by heart

I know my passport number by heart and I am really endlessly proud of that. “Oh come on, I've been living for so long, I know that number like the back of my hand.” That's how it feels. Furthermore, I know sadly few numbers by heart, except for my own mobile number and my father's. During my last trip, I had to fill in my credit card number quite often when making bookings, so I knew that one too. I thought that was cool, man. But I was back in the Netherlands for less than three hours when I got a call from the bank. I had been skimmed, a new card was going in the mail. With a new number, so yes. Dammit.

When the washing machine is running

When you have a landline

A few years ago, I got a landline, with a real 020 number. I don't think I've ever felt more adult in my life than then. “My number? Do you want my mobile or the home phone?” That was really nice. By the way, I never used that line (landlines are just outdated), so I have since canceled my subscription. But that doesn't take away the fact that I still have those devices and still feel very adult because of them.
