MOVE OVER, TINDER: FINDING A MOVIE DATE WITH THIS APP

Feeling like a trip to the cinema but no company? Ha, those times are now over. Something just dropped into my inbox that I find quite amusing. Cinema chain Kinepolis is launching an app that allows lonely movie buffs to find each other to go to the movies together. It's much more fun, right?

The grand idea came about when research showed that for many people, ‘the lack’ of company is the main reason not to go to the cinema more often..How does it work? The app helps you find a ‘movie date’ in 3 simple steps.

1. First, you select a Kinepolis cinema you want to go to.

2. Next, you see the movies currently playing in that cinema and indicate which one you would like to see.

3. In the final step, you get introduced to people who want to see at least one movie in the chosen cinema that you also want to see. Note: the app has a number of ‘match’ restrictions. For example, a 16-year-old (the minimum age for the app) can only connect with people up to 19 years old. If you both indicate that you want to have a movie date with each other, you will receive a match notification and can chat to arrange further plans. You swipe easily left or right to approve or reject someone. This way, you keep the reins in your hands about whether you ultimately end up next to your Prince (or Princess) Charming, which is nice.

The only downside: because the app is still in a testing phase, it is currently only available in Belgium. But if successful, it will undoubtedly spread to our little country. I say: move over, Tinder, there’s a new kid in town.
