OH GOSH: COUPLES IN AMSTERDAM BREAK UP THE MOST OFTEN
And in these cities, you have the greatest chance of staying together for a long time
I am quite happy that my partner and I have decided not to live in Amsterdam after all. Because yes, research from the CBS really shows: in our capital, the most broken hearts are found. Sorry folks, no one said that love would be easy.
But this does prove again: there are indeed some advantages to not living in Amsterdam. Peek here elsewhere for a moment. Furthermore, working in Amsterdam is of course the best ever, you won't hear me complain about that. But relationships, it turns out, are a little bit more difficult. In 2014 (the year on which the research is based), about 10 percent of couples broke up. Curious how your city or village stands? Get to know the top 4:
In these municipalities, the most hearts broke:
1. Amsterdam
2. Groningen
3. Schiermonnikoog
4. Delft
And in these municipalities, loves stay together the longest:
1. Urk
2. Rozendaal
3. Staphorst
4. Zederik
The reason so many couples break up in our capital? “In Amsterdam, there are many working, economically independent women. Couples are less often married, but live together. That brings fewer obligations. You only have an obligation to the other,” explains demographer Jan Latten to RTL Nieuws.
Now, the chance is quite large that your municipality is not on the above list, but here you can meticulously figure out how it is with lovebirds in your city or village. Bottom line: Sander estimates, pack your bags and move to, uh, Urk?
