onze meid in New York
What our dear Bo is up to this week? You can read about it here!
While kilos of laundry are hanging to dry in every possible spot in our New York home, I walk through Manhattan with a slight jet lag but a big smile. Blue is in glory that I am home again and I feel the same. The jet lag to New York is always a bonus, by the way. I call it the ‘granny-jet’ since I sleep around half past 8 and am fully ready to start a new day around 6.
As high as my energy level is in the early morning, it crashes dramatically as soon as the clock strikes eleven in the morning. Because god oh god, it is so hot in this city. You can literally see the heat rising from the asphalt. Manhattan is shimmering, and I am in a taxi without air conditioning trying to capture the heat with a selfie for Snapchat. Blue can't handle it outside either, but luckily he can go in the fountain.
Wearing my thinnest summer dress and heading to the pool of Mr. Purple. I arrive, quickly take off that summer dress again, and float in a tiny pool through Friday afternoon. After five o'clock, a drink (and a hamburger) joined, and that was the start of a lovely weekend.
On Saturday, it's time for Governors Island. My fiancé's office is throwing a summer party. It's the hottest day of July (think 40 degrees) and I'm drinking ice-cold punch looking out at Manhattan Island.
Cake for Blue and for us! My fiancé is having a birthday and I stumble upon a photo of our first date from 2012. How young! And, where were my eyebrows?
As a gift, I take Teun to TriBeCa. There is Aire Ancient Baths, a gem among spas. We float in salt water, dip in hot and cold pools, steam away in the steam sauna, sip on fresh juices, all while the room is lit with thousands of candles. Oh, and to finish off, a one-hour massage. Exactly how Sundays should be.
Okay, after burgers, glasses of rosé, steak tartare, and always a dessert after dinner, the vacation vibe is over. I need to start lifting weights and exhausting myself on the exercise machines. Immediately, I call Darcy from Skillful Touch that I am back in the country and to celebrate the start of this new healthy era, I treat myself to a new sports outfit.
