RENSKE WANTS TO DANCE THROUGH A AUTUMNAL (CORN) FIELD AND THIS IS WHY
Did you all know that I am also really into the new music? No, certainly not. Nobody really takes the time to get to know me. Too bad, really too bad. I'm not angry, I'm not angry, I'm disappointed! Alright. I forgive you.
So I love new music and my latest obsession is the truly beautiful song ‘Alaska’ by Maggie Rogers. Look, ‘Alaska’ is already a great title for a song. I mean, I seriously considered naming my first child Alaska. Alaska just sounds so wonderfully creative, feminine, exciting, and cool. And icy. And wild. And rural. But my boyfriend didn't want it and it turned out to be a boy and I still think Alaska is really a girl's name so there you go. But anyway, back to Maggie. And her song ‘Alaska’. ROCK SOLID.
Maybe you've heard it before, because the rough version of ‘Alaska‘ has been wildly popular since March 2016. Maggie actually played the song during a filmed (!) masterclass for Pharrell Williams and he – just like me – almost fell off his chair. Look and listen for yourself below. I mean, this is just sublime? Don't you want to have written this song yourself? Don't you want to be this chick? With that long wild hair, and those awesome nerd jeans, but especially of course because of her ridiculous musical talent?
And of course because of her past as a folk girl with a banjo. She grew up in ‘a very rural area’ (Eastern Shore Maryland) and she loved being outside. ‘I loved being outside. Like, that’s… my space.’ Well, I can tell you: that sounds really nice in interviews. Or am I just crazy? Maggie Rogers makes her appearance starting at (about) minute 18.
Anyway, Maggie officially released ‘Alaska’ a few months ago to my great delight, and especially with this current autumn weather, I play it to death. It's even a top track for running (not that I run, by the way). The accompanying clip is also sublime. A clip that makes you completely embrace autumn, a clip that makes you want to run with some friends through an open yet autumnal (corn) field. Arms wide, let it all go, hair in the wind, that kind of thing. Or as Maggie herself writes on her Instagram: ‘I love the music most when it makes me feel human. Feet on the ground, soft hair, standing with my friends … feet off the ground, hair wild, moving to that perfect pulse.“
Alright, I'll stop this praise. Just go listen a hundred times, then I'll already look for a suitable (corn) field.
