HERE YOU SHOULD GO
THE NICEST SHOPPING SPOT IN AMSTERDAM
You probably know the 9 Streets by now and Cornelis Schuyt, you've probably been there too. Therefore, it is my task to sniff out a new shopping street for you.
And I have found it. On the Westergasfabriek site in our beautiful capital. Upon entering, it's already a party. To the left, you immediately see De Bakkerswinkel. It's so nice that even our queen has been there once. Not in this branch, but in Amsterdam-Zuid. The concept is, however, the same. Think of the tastiest lattes, a bric-à-brac of vintage plates, and muffins that even I can't resist. Perfect to start your shopping route.
Then you turn left and you must (yes, you must) go to Return to Sender. That is indeed the store of Katja Schuurman, which supports the local economy in third-world countries. That's nice, but if the items weren't so darn cute, I wouldn't buy it anyway. But really, everything is cute. Banners with texts like ‘Mr. and Mrs’, ‘Hello little rockstar’, ‘It was always you’, notebooks made of recycled paper, and pen holders made from rubber tires. Everything is really cute. And you support a good cause.
Then I recommend having a tea at Het Ketelhuis or catching a movie, because you can watch the most beautiful arthouse films there. If you walk further and peek to the left, you might spot a famous figure, because to your left is the studio of De Wereld Draait Door and that of Jinek and Pauw.
Then take a few steps forward and on your right is the cutest little wine bar run by the bartender from De Wereld Draait Door. If it's really great that evening, you can even sleep at restaurant Gustafson. They have five rooms available. And if the weather is really nice, we can rent a whisper boat. But we still have to wait a little bit for that...
