And why glasses are the fashion item of the moment

And again I am grateful to my friend Anouk Smulders. This time not because she makes me laugh to the point of tears by walking around our hotel room in Santa Barbara scantily dressed while the village bus stop turns out to be right outside our open window and, lo and behold, a crowded village bus stops there too.

No, this time I am happy that she makes glasses fashionable, just at the moment when I need several in my life. My regular glasses that I have had since I was six, my sunglasses, and, uh, yes, occasionally also a pair of reading glasses. And preferably several pairs, because wearing the same glasses every day is just so boring.

One of my taste mentors, Rozemarijn de Witte, rocks her reading glasses by hanging them on a cool cord around her neck along with her sunglasses and her ‘reading glasses’, making them dangle like a chain around her waist. Glasses, in short, are the new black. The fashion item with which you shape and color your look. And it’s cheaper than a bag.
