SPORTs and MAKE-UP

not the best combination

Trust me, I get it. Even at the gym you want your outfit to be on point and your hair workout proof so you won’t look at yourself in the mirror in horror. But there’s just one thing I would steer clear from: makeup. You’ll get that natural blush from training and even those self-made highlighters will show (thank you sweat glands). But hiding under layers of foundation and lipstick to reduce the showing of redness won’t work. At all.

Research has shown that makeup can do a lot of harm when worn during a workout. Sweat and bacteria that come from working out can’t exit your skin because they’re blocked. Makeup clogs your skin, enlarges your pores and fades out your skin tone – not the best way to go. And it gets worse. Some even say that wearing makeup during a workout can cause a toxic explosion; your skin needs to be able to breathe, but since all your pores are being blocked, all of the toxic chemicals are pushed straight back into your skin.

Make-up tips that DO work when you’re working out

Alright, it’s clear. Go to the gym barefaced and cleanse your skin thoroughly before and after your workout.

– Don’t use too many products; it only ensures that your face will be covered in makeup as a result. It’s an either/or situation. Use a light crème OR pencil your eyebrows OR apply a lip balm.

– Foundation won’t be doing you any favors. Especially not a liquid foundation since it will run down your face at the first signs of heat. Go for a BB cream. It’s lightweight, which means it doesn’t have a high cover factor for your skin. Even better is a water-based BB cream. Totally sports-proof.

– Don’t use any products with an oily substance. Sweat and oil… You can imagine what you’re going to end up looking like.

– Only use waterproof products on and around the eyes. (Except when it comes to foundation as previously mentioned.) Waterproof mascara isn’t all that bad since you’re going to want to avoid mascara running down your face. And if you really can’t go without some contouring effects, you can use a waterproof pencil or gel to line out your eyebrows.
