THE FUNNIEST
VLOG PARODY ACCOUNT

Last week I told you about my new hobby: the vlogs of Casey Neistat. The hobby has now simply turned into a slight obsession. I believe I have really become a fan of his. He got to vlog at the Oscars last week (how cool is that) and when he announced it on his channel, he was so intensely and childishly happy that I was almost in tears behind my MacBook, it was so touching.

Okay wait, this might be a bit hopeless of me. Forget what I said! Anyway, I’m not going to bore you again with a hymn about Casey. In the same piece, I wrote that I find many vloggers incredibly annoying and only watch them out of pure schadenfreude. That might be a bit mean, but hey, life is mean. Anyone who also gets tired of all that cliché nonsense on YouTube is Adrian Bliss, and that’s why he decided to set up a satirical YouTube channel.

Who or what he is besides a YouTuber is not entirely clear to me. A few years ago, he posted his first videos, which take place in the future and are incredibly sharp. Talking mirrors, companies that rent out dogs to get more likes and followers, certain parts of the city where you can’t go if you don’t have enough followers, that kind of jokes. And everything is filmed very clumsily but with great special effects. It’s not easy to explain, but see below for an episode of that (four-part) future series.

And last November, he started ‘Vlogvember’, which is already a pretty brilliant joke. In Vlogvember, he shows exactly what is so stupid about most vloggers. All clichés are named and shown; from sponsorship deals to meet-ups to constantly saying that there will be a “big announcement” to the annoying begging for ‘thumbs up!’ He also came up with a wonderful closing line: “Keep on believing, make all the things and have fun during the day.”

The fun part is that he also quite literally makes a parody of the Casey Neistat I love so much. There are so many little references to Casey’s vlogs, which makes it all the funnier. Don’t think that Casey can’t appreciate that, I am hereby a whole Adrian Bliss fan precisely because of Casey, and he can especially laugh hard about it.

Adrian Bliss’s videos seem to be made by a talentless toddler, but that’s the beauty of satire: using humor to highlight someone else’s stupidity. And not just that; if you watch all 30, you’ll notice how much thought went into it, that there’s a story in it, a deeper message, that kind of thing. So sit back again, with Adrian you’ll get through the day. Below is the first of Vlogvember, after that it’s a matter of not moving anymore and just keep watching. Enjoy.
