Fun & Famous
Things you did not so long ago
and that you can no longer imagine now
I am a 90s kid ’and I grew up with 90s stuff. Flippo's, Tamagotchis, Pokémon cards, MSN; you name it. Where has the time gone? I really have no idea. What I do know is that the situations below were completely normal until a few years ago, but are now almost all passé. 1. A collect call to your mother.
Because you had of course blown through your money again. And then mom always comes to the rescue. Seriously, where has that function gone? Mom? Help?
2. Faxing
My first job was at the pizzeria, (
yes, pizzas have continued to haunt me ever since) and people seriously ordered pizzas via fax. THE FAX, that crazy ratchet sound. And that was just a completely normal thing.3. Writing a check.
Which suddenly gave a simple piece of paper a humongous value. In America, they are still quite behind in that regard. They still use checks daily. And really writing out the numbers, huh. So 'two hundred and twenty-one dollars' and then filling in the name for whom it is intended. Signature on it, done, and just send it by mail. So old school.
4. Putting on fake nails.
Secretly, we are all glad we don't do that tacky sticking anymore, right?
5. Using a strip card
The nostalgic sound when your strip was stamped... Much more fun than that beeping with your public transport card? But okay, public transport was also due for an update.
6. MSN and Hyves.
I was allowed to be on the computer for half an hour in the evening to tell all my friends in detail about my day. Sz0 writeuh was then co0wl, you know it. Are we really mourning the loss of those sites? Nah, we now have Facebook (and FB chat), Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Skype, Tinder, LinkedIn, Vimeo, WordPress, and all the other nonsense to discuss our daily lives and make friends? Well then.
7. A mobile phone with an antenna.
Speaking of hip stuff. I really felt like the coolest person ever with
my thick fridge phone with an antenna . AND THE THING COULD SMS. What a revelation.. 8. Furby.
"I'M HUNGRY, HUNGRYYY!!" At one point, my mom put that thing out with the trash, we went so crazy from that beast. But it was in my favorite color green and you could feed it by pressing your finger on its tongue. Aawh, I do miss Furby a little.
