This Dutch girl stood hand in hand with Beyoncé

(and spent the whole evening with her)

For many a dream, for the Dutch stylist/model Maureen Powel and her 10-year-old daughter Sifare the reality: during the VMA Awards the whole evening out with Beyoncé. Sifare stood last night hand in hand with Queen B on stage during the VMAs. And ha, if we really knew Maureen well (look here but) and her IMMEDIATELY contacts to find out all the ins & outs of this. I mean: with this we are just a handshake away from Beyoncé and conveniently equal to BFFs.

Okay, first of all: your daughter hand in hand with Beyoncé on the red carpet. What goes through your mind?

“I was super proud of course. What else can you be as a mother? But I am actually like that with everything she does. Although this was really a magical moment. My daughter suddenly seemed so grown up, so big.”

Maureen, holy moly, how do these kinds of things come about?

“My daughter has known Beyoncé since she was a baby actually. Her father was the captain dancer of Beyoncé and is now one of her regular choreographers. Then my daughter was asked to play in several music videos for the new album Lemonade. And that's how it all started.”

What is Beyoncé like?

“She is very down to earth and just always herself, I feel. She is friendly and nice. We actually just have completely normal conversations. For me, it also feels weird to chat so extensively about this, my inbox is full of requests, haha. I just have a relaxed relationship with her and her team.”

But that is quite special, I think.

“It is of course, but I think I am quite down to earth about it myself.”

What did your daughter wear?

“Beyoncé's team made a beautiful dress for her. I don't know what brand, but it was a designer dress for adults that they completely customized. It actually had a super long train, which they shortened.”

I would secretly like to keep that dress… Or was that not allowed?

“Haha, the dress is now back with the wardrobe, as it usually goes. She would probably have been allowed to keep it if we had asked, but to be honest, we didn't think about that at all. After the party, she just slipped back into her comfy clothes and then we ordered Mexican food.”

How did you experience all of this?

“I thought it was mega cool to be involved in everything of course. The cast was also incredibly sweet to us, just like a big family. Everyone was really fond of Sifare. She is a very calm and down to earth girl. Now she is still napping next to me, recovering from the intense evening. And I’m going to catch up on some sleep too, what an experience, haha.”
