THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT DOUWE BOB'S EUROVISION PERFORMANCE
Nervous knees for tonight? Nah. “Bring it on, I’m ready,” says the singer. Look, Douwe Bob is just super cool and with that enthusiasm, we’ll definitely make it to the semi-finals.
Have you been living in a bubble and missed the Eurovision chatter? No worries, I’ll catch you up. Here are 7 things you want to know for tonight:
1. The video of the performance has already been leaked by the Russian jury
Whoops, and that’s obviously not the intention. “There should be sanctions for this, this is absolutely not allowed,” says Marga Bult, who is on the jury for the Netherlands. The organization is now investigating the video (just look here) and will come back later with a response. It could be that the points from the Russian jury are disqualified.
2. This was Douwe's reaction…
Douwe Bob only heard this morning from 3FM DJ Giel Beelen that his performance is out on the street. “That sucks. I think that’s a lousy move,” the singer reacted. But then he collects himself: “It is what it is. At least people can prepare a bit for the epicness it’s going to have, of course.” And that’s just how it is.
3. The song ‘Slow Down’ is actually a protest song
According to Douwe Bob, the song is an indictment against the performance society we live in. He knew five twenty-somethings in his surroundings with burnout and wanted to dedicate a song to this. Which I actually find a really cool angle right away.
“I don’t want to criticize Trijntje, but I’m going to do it very differently,” he said about this.”
4. In the middle of the song, he is silent for 10 seconds
The infamous ten seconds that everyone is talking about seemed to score big with the audience during the rehearsal yesterday. Well, Slow Down, right, Bob?
5. Foreigners find Douwe a hottie
Last year, the looks of points distributor Tim Douwsma became a huge hit Twitter and it looks like we’re going to score just as well this year. If the direction captures Douwe’s bright blue gaze at the right moment, millions of music fans from Iceland to Montenegro will shift in their seats, bet?
6. Douwe is going to do it ‘differently’ than Trijntje
The singer is bringing his own band to Stockholm and also on stage, making the show not as static as last year. “I don’t want to criticize Trijntje, but I’m going to do it very differently,” he said about this.
7. A little more about his career…
For those who didn’t know: Douwe Bob Posthuma broke through in 2012 as the winner of the TV show ‘The best singer/songwriter of the Netherlands’. In September, it was announced that the 23-year-old will represent the Netherlands during the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden.
Douwe, despite my huge jetlag (more on that later, of course), the popcorn has been bought. Go get them, tiger.
