This made Simone step out of her comfort zone
Because my Sunday mornings are no longer that exciting, I decided to push my boundaries last weekend. I didn't do this by staying up all night and not with a round in Vondelpark or an hour in the gym, but by hanging out in a pole for a nice hour. Okay, wrong word choice. I mean pole dancing..
With an empty stomach (because yes, hanging with a bowl of oatmeal on your head is guaranteed to go horribly wrong) and clad in a sports bra and tiny little shorts (which is part of pole dancing), I confidently walked into Pole Dance Factory Amsterdam.
I can totally do this.
Very safely, I signed up for ‘the beginners class’. Somewhat reassured, I was when several ladies signed up as beginners. After a short warm-up, it was time to loosen everything up. As flexible as I am, I really couldn't compare to the supple body of Miss super tight. Wow, lucky boyfriend. With loosened hips, it was finally time for the real work. The basic pole exercises (yeah sorry, that word choice again) were explained and we were allowed to go for it on the pole. Mwoah, that went reasonably well. Until Miss came up with the next: legs in the air, feet on top of each other, knees clamped, and slowly let slide down. Looks smooth, but uhhh... I'm going for the beginners-beginners option. I thought.
With her super tight body, she came up to me saying; ‘Simone, you have enough strength and can definitely give it a try...’ Shit.
So said, so done. There I was, with my too short shorts where my butt was playing peekaboo.
Fortunately, cameras were not popular in the room.
Been there, done that.
Check.
