TIPS TO SAVE

That I could also use myself

It's the story of my life. Every month I set new goals and strict rules for myself to finally fill a decent savings pot, and every time it goes wrong again. My last money goes on an expensive smoothie or going out to eat.

  • Unsubscribe from all webshop newsletters. It hurt a bit, but I unsubscribed from the J.Crew site this week, but it had to be done. Every week the latest collection popped up in my inbox and then my credit card came out of my bag again.
  • Open a savings account that you can't easily access. How many times have I shuffled back and forth between my savings account and my regular account... Too much.
  • Don't order takeout, as it is always more expensive than cooking yourself.
  • Don't go to the supermarket with a huge appetite, because then you'll buy twice as much as you need.
  • Check your subscriptions. You probably still have some that you never use. Get rid of them and save money.
  • Grab the bonus flyer from the supermarket and cook with delicious items that are on sale.
  • And lastly, something I just did myself: grab a mason jar, a utility knife, and super glue. Cut a slot in the lid so coins can go through and glue the lid with super glue. I also stuck a note on it with the savings goal. In my case, that's a certain star restaurant where I would like to eat. I think next year it will happen. Or never, because then I might have broken that jar way too early...
