Travel & Hotspots
Wat te doen dit weekend
By Theo Bakana
Perhaps you're already hanging out in the lights, at the third farewell drink, or lounging on the couch for your
‘binge of the moment’. It’s the weekend again! Time to reward yourself for all the hard work and studying from last week. No idea what to do? We’re here to help.
Netflix & chill outside the door
I’ll get straight to the point, the weather forecast for Saturday doesn’t look too good. Enter Netflix & chill. Now I know that there’s nothing quite like stinking in bed all day with your favorite series on your laptop and the entire candy aisle from the Appie within reach. But I also know that it will gnaw at you and you’ll feel quite useless by the end of the day if you lie back down in bed again.
Therefore, move your Netflix & chill session outside. There are some really nice movies to see, so call your best friend and plan a marathon. I’m definitely going to check out ‘The girl on the train’ (Elke will never sit the same in the train after this movie, she told me). And May shed a few tears at Tonio, based on the book of the same name by A.F.Th. van der Heijden. And definitely go for a balcony spot at Tuschinski, because then it really becomes a fun outing.
X what? X BANK then. I only just visited here for the first time a week ago, but I will definitely go back. X BANK is the coolest concept store opposite the W hotel in Amsterdam, 700 m2 large with only Dutch brands and Dutch design. It’s really mouth-watering when you’re there. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s definitely worth admiring all the beauty, and they also have changing exhibitions. Don’t get mad if this becomes your favorite new hotspot.
You read that right: the S-U-S-H-I festival. It doesn’t require much more explanation, except that the Kromhouthal in Amsterdam will be dedicated to everything related to sushi for two days. Think sushi burgers, sushi burritos (yes, apparently those exist), DJs, and delicious desserts. I’m very curious, but a small detail: it’s a bit sold out, but I think if you keep an eye on the Facebook page, there’s bound to be something to arrange. And otherwise, just say at the door that you have to work.
Another really nice activity for a dreary Saturday. This is the largest Banksy exhibition that has been on display in Amsterdam so far. Banksy is a British street artist whose artworks hang all over the world, both in galleries and museums as well as on the street. His style is very young and raw and definitely worth checking out. So who will I see this weekend at the Beurs van Berlage?
If you have any tips, they are always welcome! Just email theo@amayzine.com. Until next weekend! Oh, and cheers, huh.
