CARNIVAL BLUES?

Here's what you can do about it

This week I had a cup of tea with a Brabantian Carlijn. She asked if she could take a look in my fridge to write a piece about it for her own made LINDA.-like magazine (that's what she called it herself). She's studying at the School of Journalism, so I made a slot in my schedule. I had already taken a photo of my fridge this weekend because I had friends over for dinner, so it was nice and full at that time. Photographing such a thing nicely is an art, I must say, but that's beside the point. I'm digressing because I actually want to talk about the carnival blues.

“Write something for the Brabanders on Wednesday. They are having a really tough time today. Carnival is over and they are left with a big dip at home. What should we do?” Carlijn suggested to me. Now, I have never celebrated carnival, but I do know what you should do if you've been partying hard for a few days in a row.

So here they come:

– Albert Heijn seems to have a promotion with heaps of sausage rolls and meat pies. “Good for after carnival.” Sure, you might be craving that, but I advise you to throw in a balance day. I assume you've eaten and drunk quite a lot of junk over the past few days. You recover from your hangover/blues faster if you eat extremely healthy. Your body will appreciate it.

– Put your shoes in the wash, along with your costume and all the other clothes you've worn over the past few days. Wash them, make them smell nice, and tidy up. That also helps in the process of becoming a normal person again.

– Invite your girlfriends over to discuss everything again. Do that with tea and chocolate on the couch. This way, you wrap it up nicely and don’t suddenly fall into a big hole of ‘what should I do now?‘.

– Go for a walk. Fresh air, clear your head.

– Quickly plan something fun. A dinner with your boyfriend or an outing somewhere. I can imagine you're feeling a bit down after such a fun time.

– Delete all the numbers of the guys you kissed during carnival.
