WHERE YOU SHOULD GO ON VACATION? FORMENTERA, PEOPLE. FORMENTERA.

Last year I spent two weeks in Formentera and since then I think I've talked about it every single week at least once. About the seventies vibe, the light (it's just ALWAYS magic hour there), the tropical-looking beaches, the weather, the sun, the cocktails, the sunsets, the smell of the pine forests, the fantastic beach bars, drive me crazy, but I'll stop already.

Of course, I thought for a long time about whether I should reveal the secret of the Balearics. I'm doing it anyway, because I've become a kind of friend to you, haven't I? TELL ME I'VE BECOME A KIND OF FRIEND. But anyway, Formentera then. It's a lot quieter there than on the popular sister Ibiza, but certainly not less nice and cool. Best travel time? Preferably June, early July or late August, early September. Then it's not so hot and you miss the crowds. Because even though Formentera is a quiet island, in high season the crowds are everywhere. The scoundrels.

Good. I assume you really want to go to Formentera now? Or would you rather go to the island Capri because our May is making such a fuss about it? Anyway, here are some last promotional words. You can bike there. And Bob Dylan once stayed in a lighthouse to write songs. Oh, and the houses are snow white, the cacti life-sized, and the styling is perfect everywhere. The only annoying thing about Formentera are the scooters that zoom past you everywhere at certain times. And when it’s windy, it sometimes really blows in capital letters and the beach is an absolute no-go. But then there are of course always the villages and the markets. And there is wine anyway.

”And there is wine anyway”

Feeling like Formentera? Here’s a list of nice hotels to stay in. Don’t be shocked by the prices, Formentera is quite an expensive island, especially in high season. If you want to keep an eye on your budget, you could also rent a nice (small) finca or search via Airbnb. Whatever you do, avoid the town of Es Pujols, it’s a pretty sticky tourist spot without any charm.

1. Hotel Es Marès

A beautiful, white, stylish and sleek hotel. The hotel is NOT on the beach, but in the middle of one of the nicest, prettiest, and dreamiest shopping and dining villages on the island. If you like to be in the (relative) hustle and bustle and don’t feel like watching your drink intake when you go out to eat, this is a lovely hit. There are really a whole bunch of nice restaurants in the village, which means you can crawl home the entire vacation.

2. Hotel Cala Saona

Beautiful hotel in a bit of a secluded corner of the island, by a beautiful bay (with a good restaurant). You walk straight from the hotel to the beach. The hotel also has a wonderful spa, a swimming pool, and of course a good kitchen.

3. Can Aisha

An absolutely charming little hotel, although it’s actually five separate suite apartments. There’s a cute restaurant and a swimming pool. It all has a delightful summer style of the highest order. Intimate, chic, gotta love it.

4. Gecko Beach Club

Sleek, white luxury hotel. Very popular. Nice location, good food, delicious beach, great pool, super service, all nice really. The photos are guaranteed to turn out great here. Luxurious families also come here because of the nice family rooms.
