WHY IN

ONE TIME EVERYTHING HAD TO BE DIFFERENT

“Shouldn't we tackle your house for a moment, May-Britt?” In the category of a good neighbor is better than a distant friend, Linda Ubachs made a sharp remark. Because while I can think for hours (well, a quarter of an hour) about an outfit and whether it matches the occasion and the location where an event takes place, my interior is a mishmash.

I do have a beautiful house that my beloved has wonderfully renovated, but in terms of decor, we are still a bit stuck with Ikea curtains (on one side of the room they are too short, in the conservatory they drag on the ground) and a couch that we once bought for five hundred euros because there-would-be-hundred-sandwiches-with-Nutella that would be ruined. By the way, that last part is not true. There were 134.

Anyway, my interior needed a makeover, Linda thought. Suddenly I saw my house through someone else's eyes and wondered why there were books and sunglasses in my china cabinet. While I looked at everything, Linda whispered useful things to me. She suggested the idea of having a cabinet made under my stairs where there would be a compartment for each child with space for their school bag, coat, and shoes.

Another tip was to sort out the toys, to say goodbye to all puzzles with missing pieces, and to tidy up some of the good toys in a cabinet. “In a few months, you’ll do the swap trick again and your children will think they have all new toys. You’ll see that they will play with them much more and you won’t have a room full of toys.”

Since this round through my house, I have only been tidying up, selecting, decluttering, and throwing things away. Meanwhile, Linda texts me examples of beautiful wallpapers that are not available in the Netherlands, but which she can of course get. From Matthew Williamson and Hermès, for example. In the meantime, her carpenter has already been by and a measuring session with ‘her curtain guy’ is scheduled for tomorrow. “If we order curtains before the end of October, you’ll get a big discount.”

I have created Pinterest boards, finally read Architectural Digest (the most beautiful interior magazine) thoroughly, tested sofas, and collected photos for frames that Linda then orders for me.

I have suddenly become so incredibly team interior. And team Linda Ubachs of course, because where do you still find such people? Well, here therefore.

It will be very much followed.
