WHY TIME DIFFERENCE IS NICE
I have a few strange quirks. For example, I love jetlags. But if you want to know why, you should here just read how it all comes about. But you can't make me happier with a destination with a time difference, and here's why.
1. The adventure
When there is a time difference, you are quite a distance away from your own habitat. This reasoning doesn't work the other way around, by the way, because you can also be far from home and still be in the same time zone (like I here was). In Belgium, for example, you won't manage with your time difference. Anyway, if there is a time difference, you are at a destination further from home and that is already an adventure. See, you've already got your first advantage.
2. You are ahead of the rest
You can reason this assumption towards yourself in two ways. For example, if you are in Asia, you have already completed a large part of the day that those staying at home still have to go through. For you, it's already New Year, you've already put in a workday while they are just opening their laptops, and so on. But if you are in New York, you are so annoyingly awake early that you are ahead of your fellow New Yorkers and have already done your shopping, updated your email, and run three laps around Central Park (so to speak) before the rest of the city gets moving.
3. You have literal distance
You are far away and also in a different time than those at home. For example, if you are in Italy, you keep thinking about what your colleagues are doing at that moment. With a different time zone, you quickly stop doing that. Too much calculation. You have better things to do. Like drinking cocktails.
4. People quickly drop off
When they call you and hear the international ringtone, they usually hang up. But if you answer and say that they are waking you up/that you are already having cocktails, they immediately drop off and you can do other things again. Like drinking cocktails.
And with a bit of luck, time difference comes with jetlag. Look, then the circle is complete again.
