WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER SAY THAT YOU GET FATTER BECAUSE OF YOUR AGE

Every day someone says it. “Now that I’m getting older, I notice that it’s harder to lose those pounds.” And then everyone nods in agreement and understanding. We can’t do anything about it. It’s bigger than us. Period. Bring on the cake because there’s nothing to be done.

I’ve heard these words roll off my lips too. Oh. Back in the day. Yes, back then. I used to weigh a steady 53.5 and could eat whatever I wanted. But that’s actually not true at all. You know it, I know it. And if you don’t believe it, I have this checklist.

1. Do you really exercise as much as you did back then?

No, right? Just think about those two hours of gym you had per week. And you played hockey or did ballet and you cycled to school. I, for example, cycled 10 kilometers there and 10 kilometers back. Man, what I did per day back then, I can’t even match in a week.

2. Do you really eat as much as you did back then?

Back then it was breakfast, two sandwiches at lunch, and an apple. Okay, and a pink cookie during the break. But you laughed that off while cycling. How many lattes did you drink back then? And ‘alcoholic beverages’? Well... Once a week. At most two. Definitely not every day with meals.

3. Heartbreak

I had at least one broken heart situation every month. Or an issue with friends, or stress about a test or exam. And then I wouldn’t eat. Now it’s all stability galore. Great, but killer for the figure.

So. We know what we have to do. No whining and hit the gym. I’m going NOW.
