10 Things You Recognize When You Have Hay Fever

Suddenly it was there. Hay fever. And although it is more severe one year than the other, it seems to be here to stay for good. Summer is great in every way (like this), with a thick, fat, big, gigantic downside: hay fever.

  1. That you have to sneeze so hard that you pee a little in your pants.
  2. That you fantasize about a life without a nose.
  3. That your palate itches.
  4. That you feel like a danger on the road. When you sneeze, it is so loud and intense that you have your eyes closed for at least two seconds. There was an article in the newspaper recently comparing driving with hay fever to driving with three glasses of alcohol. Here just a few free reasons why it might be a good idea to drink a little less.
  5. That you keep running your index finger along your nostrils and that if you do this at a festival, you’re afraid people think you’re doing it for another reason. You get it?
  6. That you have to sneeze when you run your nails along your forehead.
  7. That sunglasses are not a matter of image but a bitter necessity. Anything to reduce that itching in your eyes.
  8. That you scrounge off pharmacists like a junkie, preferably abroad, looking for a medicine that actually helps and doesn’t make you dead tired.
  9. That you apologize after a sneezing fit because it was so loud that the windows shook.
  10. That it’s wonderful to talk to fellow sufferers.
