10X OF THESE JOBS GIVE YOU STRESS

‘Oh, but I thrive on that adrenaline just before the deadline.’ At three in the morning. After seventeen cups of coffee. With matchsticks between your eyelids. Uhuh, of course. Just replace adrenaline here with stress, milady. A job with a ridiculously high stress level is no fun at all, so just lean back comfortably in your office chair and read. In the context of absolutely not acting ‘lagom’ (if you missed this überchill lifestyle, click here): the most stressful jobs on earth of 2017 according to CareerCast.

1. Firefighter

Imagine a building is on fire, you think only one thing: get out of here. And those firefighters go right inside. Logical, just very logical that this does things to you.

2. Military

Yes, shooting and getting shot at. As a military person, you risk physical injury and that significantly affects your stress level.

3. Corporate executive

I will be the boss later. Sounds fun, right? But the responsibility for your own or someone else's business is really intense. It doesn't stop at five o'clock, but is a twenty-four-seven job.

4. Pilot

And especially a pilot on a commercial flight, not the air force (although that falls under military, tricky). An average Boeing 747 holds about 450 people. Four hundred and fifty individuals with a beautiful life and a story, with family and loves and a less stressful job than you. No pressure otherwise.

5. Police officer

Not really a relaxed job, if you sometimes think that. Police officers fall under the same umbrella as military personnel.

‘Oh, but I thrive on that adrenaline just before the deadline.’

6. The journalist

Nice, that journalism, but it’s a very tough life. Everyone reads you, everyone has an opinion about it, and everyone wants your piece on the mat by seven in the morning. Daily newspaper journalists get immense stress from this.

7. In PR

Did you think maintaining personal relationships is a full-time job? Well, then add the business side to that. Busy, huh? And then your company gets into a crisis or makes a mistake, and then you have to explain in detail what went wrong. Phew.

8. Taxi driver

This seemed like a great job to me, if you don’t count that screaming group of drivers at the exit of Schiphol, but that’s a lie. And we just talked about that airplane, right? Accidents happen most often on the road, and if it all goes well, your heart races in every fiber of your being. Well, that and then all day long. I get it.

9. Reporter

Colleague of the daily newspaper journalist and here the pressure is on too. You must and will and want to be the first to bring the news. If you don’t? Then you’re out, another stress factor on top of the news pressure.

10. Event coordinator

So you thought organizing a dance event was your dream job? Mwah, maybe not. The deadlines, the running around, that you have to solve everything and that it has to be done on time. When the shizzle hits the fan, you have to get to work. Event coordinators are full of must-dos.

And if you don’t see all that stress fitting? Then just become a nice orthodontist, optometrist, or web developer. You’ll get a super relaxed career from that.
