15 reasons why you should start running

Sometimes you just need a little extra push. A little nudge when your motivation is nowhere to be found. Here at the editorial office, I share quite a few of those pushes. I won't name names, though. Personally, I never really need pushes, unless it comes to running. I'm really a fair-weather runner and in winter, it's hard to get me off the couch. Did you have a round in the park planned for today, but is that sunny terrace a dangerous temptation? Ain’t gonna happen, girlfriend. Excuses are a thing of the past, think of that bikini. And these are the other reasons why you should start today.

  1. For the fantastic feeling you get as a gift after your run.
  2. Putting on your running shoes for an hour is just 6% of your day. So no time is such a bad excuse.
  3. If you don’t go, you feel guilty.
  4. Imagine, you make your round while the sun is shining, then you kill two birds with one stone. You also work on your tan...
  5. You can show the world on Instagram that you’re doing well. I mean: all for the photo.
  6. After your workout, you can reward yourself with a nice meal. Healthy or unhealthy. Because yes, those calories need to be replenished.
  7. Exercising stimulates the production of the substance endorphin, and endorphins make us happy. We want that.
  8. No expensive materials or costly gym membership: running is just free.
  9. You lose weight from it. Okay, a redundant point but still.
  10. According to research, active people have a lower chance of colon cancer. Women who exercise regularly can reduce their risk of breast cancer by 30 percent.
  11. You can eat pasta without guilt. Because those who run need carbohydrates. I mean, isn’t that reason enough to sprint NOW?
  12. Research has shown that exercising can help strengthen your memory and reduce symptoms of dementia. Now still a far-from-your-bed show, later quite a nice side effect.
  13. A round of running is just a free beauty treatment for your face. Because you sweat, your pores get cleaned. But uh, do remove that layer of makeup first...
  14. You can run anywhere. So yes, girlfriend, also on vacation or during a weekend getaway.
  15. Got a date planned? Put on your sports outfit and dive into the park. You don’t have to chat much and you burn calories too. Winning.
