3 books to improve your life
The pleasure of going on vacation I find A. doing nothing on a beach chair and B. doing nothing on a beach chair with a stack of books by my side. Standardly, three to four books go in the suitcase; from romantic tearjerkers (I mention Jojo Moyes – Me Before You, my all-time favorite) to inspiring collections. Do you have a vacation planned or do you just feel like curling up with a portion of reading material under the covers? I devoured these and can highly recommend them.
1. Bedrock – Nina Pierson & Josephine Kay
How do we deal with the daily stream of stimuli? How do friendships and romantic relationships influence us? How can we truly live healthily? How do you make time for yourself? And how do you also care for the world around you when your own agenda is overflowing? In this book, Nina Pierson and Josephine Kay gather wise words, experiences, and struggles from scientists, psychologists, and experts on happiness, health, and mindfulness. Topics about travel, work, family, and friendship are discussed. A delightful book that makes you aware and helps you become the best version of yourself, for yourself and in the world you live in.
2. The Logic of Happiness – Mo Gawdat
What do you do when you are healthy, have extreme wealth, and are also successful? Mo Gawdat could check all three boxes, but still felt intensely unhappy. His goal was to find a happiness formula that could be applied repeatedly to everyone’s life, with happiness as the result. Unfortunately, his quest took an unexpected turn when his 21-year-old son Ali suddenly passed away. During the processing of this great loss, Mo found a new mission: he would share his findings with the whole world to help as many people as possible become happier. His vision is that, regardless of the obstacles in your path, the burdens you carry, and the trials you endure, you have the ability to be happy with existence as it is. A positive, optimistic book that everyone should read. I’m curious if you can keep it dry…
3. Babe, you got this – Martje Haverkamp & Emilie Sobels
We live in a world where everything is shared via social media, where women become successful at a young age. A thriving own business, a dream job, a killer body, a fantastic partner, and a wonderful social life. Where we constantly compare ourselves and wonder when we will achieve those successes ourselves. Something that makes us insecure and perhaps even unhappy. In Babe, you got this, Emilie and Martje have asked a string of inspiring, successful female entrepreneurs for advice. A book with tools that can help in realizing your dreams. Because successful women help each other: ‘Babe, you got this.’
