 7x spring in a candle

So I have a serious scented candle addiction. But really. When I lived in America (didn't you know that? You can read here how I ended up there in the first place), it was almost a sport for me to come home weekly with the best candles. They really know how to do it, those Americans. I secretly kept them all in a drawer in my wardrobe, or well, secretly, secretly... You understand there wasn't much secret about SCENTed candles. Victoria's Secret, for example, not only does it incredibly well with their undies, but they can also make candles like the best. Or Bed Bath & Beyond, another top one. So I really don't need a guy to bring romance into the house. Just light an altar of candles and I'm happy. While I crave warm, spicy scents with cinnamon and cardamom on cold days, I reach for citrus, linen, and musk in the summer. Now you understand that I've been a bit confused these past few weeks. Because seriously, it felt like we were thrown back to December. But hey, the nice weather is coming back, I can feel it. So open your windows and light a candle. These are already my favorites.

1. Jo Malone Green Tomato Leaf

I don't have this one yet, but it's high on my wishlist. My sister-in-law is crazy about this scent and since I stuck my nose in the candle, I'm a big fan too. Green Tomato Leaf – a greenhouse full of tomatoes, green and full of sunshine. When you burn this candle, you feel like you're in the fields of Tuscany with the sun on your face and a cold glass of wine in your hand. The perfect candle for a sultry summer evening. I want it.

2. Guerlain Pot Pourri Parisien

Guerlain's scented candles are not very easy to find. In Amsterdam, you can find them at the Guerlain Spa in the Waldorf Astoria (you have to dive into the basement to find them, but believe me: it's totally worth the climb). Just the packaging is très instagrammable, but also the scents (which is what it's all about) are very special. Pot Pourri Parisien is Paris in a scented candle, and we all happen to be huge fans of the city of love. I feel a new editorial candle coming. The scent of sweet flower petals, cinnamon, patchouli, and sandalwood. Well, cinnamon, right? The candle for an autumn-like spring day in the Netherlands, and there are quite a few of those. While the rain is pouring against your window and you enjoy your ginger tea on the couch surrounded by Paris. I'll take that one.

3. Diptyque Jonquille

When you think of spring in the Netherlands, you think of rain. Ha, just kidding. You think of flowers, because we are known for our tulips for a reason. But you also regularly see the bright yellow daffodils in the roadside. And this fresh yellow flower is hidden in this door candle. Light the candle on days when you don't feel like getting a fresh bouquet of flowers and you have almost the same effect.

4. Marie-Stella-Maris – No. 92 Objet d’Amsterdam

Now I love everything from Marie-Stella-Maris, but you must get this candle for a touch of spring. The fresh sweet scent of white tea with citrus notes of bergamot and lemon is heavenly. And the pristine white look of this scent works well in any interior.

5. Molton Brown – Coco & Sandalwood

This scent is also not yet on my table, but it's high on my list. And I'm just having a housewarming in June. With the scent of creamy coconut from the Philippines and warm sandalwood, you feel like you're on a sun-drenched tropical island. You'd almost want to put on your bikini and pull out your sunscreen.

6. Yankee Candle – Clean Cotton

Nothing smells as good as freshly washed clothes. And that's this candle. A souvenir from America and since then this candle ends up in my shopping cart every two months. The scent of sun-dried cotton combined with white flowers and a hint of lemon makes you want to do a spring dance.

7. 2931 – Sweet Home

Okay, and now I'm playing unfair because this is a room spray and not a candle. But it's my all-time favorite. It's available at Mayke in Oisterwijk and I would love to shower with this scent, smear myself with it, refresh myself with it, and wash my clothes with it, I become so intensely happy from this scent. A spontaneous hyperventilation also occurred when my colleagues told me this would be a limited edition and the scent would no longer be available. After some research, a package unexpectedly landed on my desk last week. From my now besties in Oisterwijk.
