7X THIS IS HOW YOU GET RID OF
THOSE THICK ANKLES
All nice and well, those tropical temperatures from last week, but on those scorching hot days, I sometimes feel like a helium balloon plucked from the airport. Inflated, yes. And at such moments, my Havaianas are my best friends, and my rings stay nicely on my nightstand. Time to share these fluid-draining tricks with you.
1. Drink more water
Yes, this may sound a bit silly because why would you want to take in even more fluid when you're already about to burst? And yet, that's what you need to do, girlfriend. In warm weather, your body retains fluid, and what you want to avoid is creating a fluid deficit. Drink small amounts throughout the day and don't down an entire bottle at once. Jazz up your water with a lemon or lime. Not only is it very tasty, but it's also good for keeping your body's acidity in balance. And that helps drain fluid.
2. Get moving
In the heat, you'd rather stay still than run a half marathon. Now I completely understand that you want to leave those running shoes in the closet, but at least try to stay active. Seek coolness in the woods or go for a nice swim. This way, you stimulate circulation and promote fluid drainage in your legs. The fastest way to get rid of those thick ankles.
3. Snacks
Celery, fennel, cucumber, and pineapple are diuretic and also help you get rid of toxins in your body.
4. Supplement cocktail
Don't forget to take your supplements at breakfast. Vitamins B6, B5, B1, and vitamin D help you retain less fluid. But calcium and magnesium also work well to get rid of excess fluid. Of course, you can also get them from your diet.
5. Drink this herbal tea
Nettle tea may not be the first tea you grab from the shelf in the supermarket, but it is indeed the remedy for those thick elephant legs. This herbal tea is packed with vitamin C, flavonoids, folic acid, magnesium, iron, and silicic acid. Not a fan of herbal tea? Green tea works too. Brew a large pot, let it cool, add a slice of lemon, and you have a delicious refreshing summer drink.
6. Eat less salt
Leave the salt shaker in your kitchen cabinet on summer days and try to flavor your food with herbs. Salt only causes you to retain more fluid. Go for garlic, pepper, parsley, coriander, or basil.
7. Less sugar
Now, it is generally wise to avoid the sugar bowl as much as possible, but especially in the summer, you'd prefer to stay away from it. Sugar causes your blood sugar levels to spike, leading to more insulin production, which results in your body excreting less salt. Result: fluid retention. Circle complete.
