A SWAROVSKI STORY

Your editors have the solution for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day, the struggle. But sometimes not at all, because your editors are here to show you what the absolute best idea is on that romance-filled day. Look, men sometimes forget women (that story about being too commercial is just a handy excuse) and that's why we present you the solution. Treat your female friends with Swarovski. May-Britt, Elke, Kiki, and Simone pampered their favorite women, and secretly, don't we all want that?

May-Britt:
I know my daughters think I'm quite likable, but that doesn't diminish the need to occasionally divide my belongings. There are frequent meetings about who will inherit which bag, and my engagement ring (yes, I've been happily engaged for years) is almost being taken off my fingers. But it's not far off. To keep them satisfied for now, and truly, truly, also to let them know how much I love them, I bought these adorable pendants from Swarovski .

Elke:
It was truly love at first sight. About ten years ago when I walked into the auditorium of the university where I would study with my imperfect Dutch. The day started off terribly when it turned out I was enrolled in the wrong program – the university's fault, not mine (just to be clear). Management decided to place me in a random group so that I would at least be present for the right classes and not fall behind. And let me put it this way, I have been incredibly grateful for that silly mistake by the school, because there she was, my wifey for lifey.

Ten years later and we’re still attached at the hip. And because I believe you should brag a little when you're very proud of something, here's an ode to one of the hardest working ladies in fashion who just designed her very first clothing collection for a new brand. That deserves something nice and an overdose of love. And that love comes in the form of love at first sight when I spotted these bracelets at Swarovski: the Crystal Wishes Evil Eye. A good luck charm, because I wish her all the success in the world. So here it is, Nikki, for you, because a little extra luck never hurts.

Simone:

I consider myself quite lucky with my mother, who has been both father and mother since the moment I could walk (and you have your hands full with a specimen like me). My father died in a car accident, and my mother was left with four little ones. And if I tell you that besides raising four kids, she has moved about fifteen times and almost lost me to a distant love in America, you can guess how happy she was when I finally found my peace in Amsterdam.

By now, there’s a pajama of hers neatly folded in my closet and an extra toothbrush on my sink. ‘For when I come to stay again, Simoon,’ she said when she lifted the last moving box over the threshold. We’ve had quite a few sleepovers since then, which are not only incredibly fun, but I also come home to a spotless house after work. One in a thousand, you get that, right? And when you’re asked who you’d like to shower with this beautiful jewelry of stones and sparkles from Swarovski, I don’t have to think long about that,

Kiki:
Secretly, I still hope it’s a joke, but I fear I really have to believe it now. My best friend Roos has migrated to Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Last week we had the farewell and hallelujah, that was quite tough. Who am I going to drink wine with now? Shop obsessively to the point of forgetting to have lunch and return home emaciated? Scour parties? Stalk with my woes? Who am I going to scream at the door to when I’ve experienced something cool? That’s what you have your bestie for?

You should know that Roos is the type of friend who can spontaneously shower you with gifts. Under the motto: giving is more fun than receiving. During New Year's Eve, she suddenly showed up with a pair of gorgeous black floral pumps in front of me, which she actually wanted to buy for herself, but because she knew we have the same taste in shoes, she bought two pairs right away. That’s bestie material, right? Unbelievably sweet.

And that’s why I find it special that I get to surprise someone today. When I was asked who I wanted to give a Valentine's jewelry to, I didn’t have to think about it. My bestie Roos. The only woman who knows all my secrets. With whom I have laughed, cried, with whom I got into cars with strangers in America, and with whom I grew up. For ten years now. Dear Roos, since I know you love glitter & glam, I’m sure that this Swarovski bracelet will shine perfectly on your arm in Ivory Coast. It’s coming your way, darling. And maybe I’ll come along.
