The model lessons of Emma Stone in La La Land

I have come to realize that there are two types of people in the world: the people who are completely obsessed with the movie La La Land (me) and the people who absolutely hate ‘that musical’. Just in case you belong to the second group, shall we have some coffee? I'll give you a sermon on why it's really totally the shit. I think you just haven't understood the movie very well, but that's beside the point. Today, let's have a lesson in the fashion of the Oscar-nominated Emma Stone from La La Land.

1. Don't be afraid of color

One of the most brilliant aspects of the film, in my opinion, was the amount of attention they paid to the clothing. It was truly an ode to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Most of Emma's and her friends' looks in the film popped with color: yellow, blue, red, and green. Be like Emma: be daring, dare to stand out.

2. High street is your best friend

Being stylish on a budget is easy. The costume designer of the film said it would be silly for Emma, in the role of Mia as a struggling actress, to be prancing around in the most expensive clothes. So besides wearing a blue dress by Jason Wu, she also wore affordable brands. Zara, H&M, Topshop; who said stylish had to be expensive?

3. Mix all the old with the new

Instead of a full vintage look for the film, she mixed old items with new to keep her look ‘current’ with a touch of old school Hollywood glam.

4. Suits are sometimes so much cooler than dresses

That's a suit, a suit of my heart la la la. Thanks to Lilian I've had this song stuck in my head for days. But in La La Land, Emma shows us how badass a suit can be on a woman and why we should all have at least one hanging in our closet.

5. Always have flat shoes and a white shirt with you

White always gets dirty. You can see that in the film when Emma bumps into someone and gets coffee on her. Do you have something important to go to? Bring an extra white shirt. Same story with shoes. Are you wearing heels? Believe me, you want to stuff those flat shoes in your bag because imagine, just imagine you suddenly have to walk 5 kilometers, you don't want to do that in heels.

Ha, Simoon, now we know what to keep in mind when packing our bags for London Fashion Week. Toodles!
