AMAYZINE QUESTIONNAIRE
Lieke van Lexmond
Ask me who I really think is a beauty and I'll tell you: Lieke van Lexmond. You should know that Lieke is a chameleon. Super down-to-earth vs. super glamorous. She can be a real vamp, but she also remains a girl next door. No wonder Max Factor asked her to be the new ambassador for the brand. That was sealed yesterday with an amazing dinner at Jacobsz in Amsterdam and duh, of course we had to be there. To chat about the new collaboration, pregnancy cravings, the whether-or-not-botox story, and her (according to her) awful beauty looks from the ’90s.
Those fluorescent clothes, hysterically high hair, and lipstick in bright colors, no, we didn't really get any prettier with that.
Your beauty icon?
“I think Brigitte Bardot is incredibly beautiful. That hair, that makeup, that aura. That French nonchalance is really the ultimate beauty for me.”
Which makeup look do you find sexy on a woman?
“I find glowy skin very beautiful. In any case, I think skin is the most important thing in a good makeup look. Authenticity is sexy to me. So don't cover your entire skin, but just work on your imperfections.”
Covering up wrinkles or letting nature take its course?
“I personally use no botox. I find it very beautiful on some people and totally not on others. That's why I find it a bit scary. I have a lot of expression in my face, which is not always handy for the wrinkles on my forehead, for example, but if I start tightening that with botox, my whole face changes and I absolutely don't want that. Then I'd rather apply some extra moisturizing cream and keep an eye on the sunlight. And you can also see that I'm 35,
I think.”
Your favorite product from Max Factor?
“The False Lashes mascara. I love applying a thick mascara, it gives an eye so much sex, femininity, and power all at once.”
Your biggest beauty fail from the past?
“Oh, just everything a lot and way too much. The ’90s were really awful when you look back on it. Those fluorescent clothes, hysterically high hair, and lipstick in bright colors, no, we didn't really get any prettier with that, haha. Nowadays, you also see that beauty routines are changing on set. In the past, you got a ‘pancake’ on your face that made you look like an orange, nowadays there's much more focus on what personally works beautifully for your skin.”
I keep getting asked if I've had my lips injected, haha.
What is your ultimate beauty secret?
“I use very little powder, I actually always find that makes you look older. Only on my chin or nose to prevent shine, but otherwise my skin stays much fresher if I use it as little as possible.”
And when does Bas find you the most sexy?
“On one hand, he thinks it's beautiful when I just come out of the shower with a bun on my head, and on the other hand, he can also really appreciate it when I wear lipstick and nice jewelry. I think he got that from home, his mother always looks incredibly beautiful and well-groomed. I've also had boyfriends in the past who barely noticed when I had made an effort, which is a bit less, haha.”
Has anything changed beauty-wise now that you're pregnant?
“Absolutely. Hormones do a lot. I also notice that I have fewer impurities than normal. You often hear that you get a boy because girls can make the skin a bit more restless. Furthermore, I suddenly have much fuller lips. I keep getting asked if I've had my lips injected, haha.”
What is your biggest pregnancy craving?
“I actually don't have any crazy cravings right now. So far, I've also gained much less weight than in my previous pregnancy. Back then, I really drove around for the warm grilled sausage from Van Dam, it became almost embarrassing. In the first months, I did crave comfort food more. Fried eggs with bacon and toast, for example. Until I thought I need to stop now, otherwise I'll become a toast myself and since then I've also been drinking a green shake more often to feel good. But drastically? No. I just eat well. And walking with Vik and the programs I make keep me fit.”
When are you actually due?
“Early April. Quite a nice month, right? Also usually perfect walking weather. So now just five or six weeks left. It could very well be an April 1st joke . With humor in the world, everything is possible.”
