Beauty for travel
In a month, I will board the plane to Asia. Think: three months, seven countries, and a whole lot of adventure. My god, I can't wait. But before that happens, a month of chaos awaits me. A tiny part of my to-do list? Applying for visas, buying a backpack, putting together a wardrobe… My apartment in Amsterdam also needs the moving boxes in and back to dear dad in Germany. And that's just a tiny part. So anyone who thinks a long trip is just fun and games is quite mistaken. I'm not complaining, though, because: sun, sea, beach, culture, food, ugh. Yesssss pleaaaseeee.
“Pack this and you'll have more space for bikinis, sandals, and that cute dress”
But let's go back to that to-do list, okay? That bag I still need to buy can hold a maximum of 15 kilos. And my closet is overflowing with at least 40 kilos of silk, wool, jeans, and tweed. Minor problem: how am I supposed to take all this with me? Luckily, I do have some experience in this area. If you live in Hong Kong for half a year and have a friend who works in London, you understand the concept of smart packing. The easy way to save space? Beauty products. Because you can now find all of them in travel-proof packaging. Here are the most handy items for your suitcase. This way, you have more room for those cute bikinis, sandals, and dresses. You can thank me later.
- First stop: Vietnam. But first, another nineteen hours on the plane. And do you know how dry it is in that thing? Sigh. Hand cream is your lifesaver. And this one fits perfectly in that handy little pocket of your handbag. Match made in heaven.
- And in those nineteen hours, huh? Have you ever gone so long without brushing your teeth? I haven't. And I hope you haven't either. So why do you do it on the plane? This travel toothbrush keeps that dead bird outside during your flight. And with the cap, it stays clean in your bag. No airplane food breath for you.
- Not only does the plane dry out your skin. That strong sun and salty seawater don't help either. So it's every evening slathering on body lotion. And this one smells like sea breeze and freshly picked flowers. Need I say more?
- Okay, let's be honest: who has the desire or time to stop by the local supermarket to buy shampoo? Not me, for sure. So that shampoo, you just take from home. But in a small size. Enough to last the whole trip, but also small enough so it doesn't take up unnecessary space. Win-win situation.
- Have you packed your lipstick and blush yet? Then take them out of your suitcase, because the Baby Lips Balm & Blush from Maybelline is both. I say: pro-packing tip.
- Dry shampoo is a must for everyone traveling. You have better things on your mind than spending hours styling your hair. A spray here, a spray there, and you're all set for all those adventures.
- And to smell extra nice? Hair perfume. Perfect for a date with that local surfer.
- During a night out, you naturally want your eyeliner to stay put in that heat. No worries, the Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Eyeliner is your best friend.
