CAROLIEN’S FAST LANE LIFE
The holiday is over and we are immediately back to work full throttle. When my alarm went off this morning, I was briefly under the impression that I was still enjoying myself in London... Man oh man, what a party it was there! For a week we didn't have to set an alarm, we strolled through the beautiful city and ate so much that I need to schedule a balance day that will last two months... But hey, on vacation everything is allowed, right? If you're heading that way soon, make sure to schedule a breakfast at L’ETO for the tastiest egg dishes, grab a healthy lunch at Ottolenghi, and save up for a dinner (or cocktail) at Hakkasan. Oh, for the fluffiest pancakes ever, you really need to make a pit stop at the newest hotspot in town: Chiltern Firehouse (thanks dear May, for this tip!). And if you want to spot some celebrities, make sure to stay until the late evening hours...
To prevent us from really eating non-stop 24/7, there were also some activities on the agenda. Now you can't visit London at this time of year without doing some serious shopping in the sale, and we took that very seriously... My biggest discovery was the brand Coach: not a new brand at all, but I had never set foot in their stores (which is quite surprising given my annual shopping behavior). The entire collection had my name written all over it! So after plundering the shoe department and blowing my shopping budget in half an hour, it was time for some cultural entertainment. Next to the British Museum, ‘The Book of Mormon’ was on the schedule and man oh man, we were looking forward to this! For six years to be exact, since the musical premiered in New York. And it exceeded our wildest imagination! Huge hats off to the creators, who also came up with the brilliant South Park. And to wrap up this fantastic week, we played a round of ‘Junk Yard Golf’ in Shoreditch: an absolute must!
As a total surprise, I received the message yesterday that the Black Tulip season 2 finally comes on TV! Starting today, you can clear your schedule for the next 12 Wednesday evenings for the new adventures of among others Ben and Kat. And I can tell you that a lot is going to happen. At the beginning of the season, Ben is in jail for something Kat actually did. But because Kat is heavily pregnant, Ben takes the blame: true love indeed! It was such a joy to step back into the shoes of our alter egos together with Roeland Fernhout. I really hope there will be a season 3 and that I can pull out those lovely pink tracksuits and teased hair again!
For years I resisted it: glasses without prescription that are purely used as a fashion accessory. Together with Marly, I even had my eyes measured to check if we might actually need glasses, but unfortunately (or actually: fortunately). As cool as I find glasses, you will never catch me with a fake pair. Until last week. I received this beautiful pair of glasses from Charlie Temple and I decided to set aside my strange principle: if I think such glasses are so cool, what’s stopping me?
After two hours with my new fashion accessory on my nose, it still feels a bit like I'm fooling everyone. But every time I see myself in a mirror, I do feel happy with those lovely glasses. Just a little more struggling then...
I can't make my husband happier than with a lovely scrub. The first time we were together in New York, he bought a delicious scrub from Fresh for a fortune and I was sold too: how have I ever lived without such a lovely scrub? Since then, I've been looking for the latest scrub innovation for Jon under the tree every year. When I saw the black color of this scrub from Collistar I was immediately curious: does your whole body really turn black when you apply it? There’s a small instruction included: you apply this scrub like a kind of clay mask before stepping into the shower. And indeed: as if you are in a real spa, you stand for ten minutes in a completely black sticky, wonderfully scented substance waiting for the scrub to be rinsed off. The result? A velvety soft skin. The scrub from New York has officially been dethroned from the top spot.
