After a long day out with that little one, I come home, where Jon is already waiting for us and can't wait to cuddle with us (especially with Otis). The moment Jon asks how our day was and I want to start talking, we hear to our great surprise some babbling between us: Otis apparently wants to give a detailed report of our trip. We couldn't stop laughing: for a good fifteen minutes, Mr. was babbling non-stop and laughing with joy. You could have swept me up afterwards, and Jon had a grin from ear to ear for the rest of the evening. What a little guy he is, our greatest imaginable happiness…
Sushi lovers, pay attention! For years, Jon and I have been fans of Sushi Samba in London: the dishes they serve you are absolutely not standard for a sushi place. You can clearly taste the Brazilian and Peruvian influences (I mention a yellowtail with jalapeño and lemongrass) and I really want to try all the dishes on the menu. Besides the beautiful view over London (they are located on the top floor of a tall building), the menu in Amsterdam is just as exciting and spectacular. And in the summer, all the side doors can be opened, so you can dine beautifully by the water. No London skyline can compete with that, right?
My girlfriend Sarah Chronis called me last week asking if I wanted to celebrate Christmas for a day. Now, I am really a huge Christmas fan, just like her, and I can't wait to celebrate Christmas together for the first time this year. Online, I am scouring all the sites for the perfect Christmas pajamas in triplicate, and the first new Christmas ornaments have already been purchased. So I responded quite enthusiastically to this question and pulled out a lovely Christmas outfit from the closet. Of course, all of this was in the context of a new program, but unfortunately, I can't say anything about that yet. A little hint: my favorite Christmas song will not go unsung…
Now that my belly has almost completely disappeared, I thought I could finally wear my entire wardrobe again. But of course, I had taken zero account of the fact that breastfeeding also limits you to a number of specific clothing items… And so I discovered that I mainly own high-necked tops or dresses with no buttons to be found. So it was high time to go looking for new blouses and dresses with handy buttons together with Marly (who is expecting princess number two any moment now). That search immediately stopped after store number 1: at Fabienne Chapot, we both found a great suit plus a beautiful long dress that can be tied from top to bottom. Luckily, it's only about the top few buttons.
Jon is now halfway through the recordings of Bonbini Holland part two, and we can't wait to be together again as a trio. I am lucky that Jon could take a whole month off after Otis’ birth as a self-employed person, and we could really enjoy being together and getting used to the new situation, but the average Dutch man has two days of leave (!) after the birth. I completely understand Nina Pierson, who wants to advocate for the Swedish system where young families receive a year of leave together. How you fill in these months is up to you and your partner. But more and more research shows how important it is to be with your little one as much as possible during the first year of life. Now the cabinet wants to advocate for six weeks of leave for expectant fathers: a significant step in the right direction!
