MY NEW ROOTS – SARAH BRITTON
Have you ever been so addicted to a pair of jeans that you just buy a second one? Because imagine, you want to wear it and it's in the wash. For me, that's very relatable. But this doesn't just happen in my wardrobe. I also double up on cookbooks these days. Last week, a package from Bol.com landed on my doormat, and that's my favorite mail, because it usually means a new (cook)book. This time the surprise was a bit less because I already have the same book in Maastricht.
Wait a minute, this is about my favorite cookbook of all time. Because when I spend the weekend at my mother's, it means: cooking party. Even before I've unpacked my bag, I'm already stirring in the pots and kneading bread dough with my hands. And because I prefer to be smashing it in the gym rather than lugging around kilos of cookbooks, I've started filling two bookshelves: one in Maastricht and one in Amsterdam. My absolute favorite in my life is My New Roots by Sarah Britton, where you not only make the most flavorful dishes, but it also makes your kitchen table incredibly cozy and colorful. So even if you're not that much of a kitchen princess, you want this book on your table. Sarah finds it important to eat according to the rhythm of the seasons. Not only is that environmentally friendly, but it also helps your body adapt to the surroundings. This cookbook is divided into five chapters: spring, early summer, late summer, autumn, and winter. All recipes are vegetarian, but also vegan and gluten-free.
In this book, Sarah not only gives you information about different cooking techniques but also about the ingredients she prefers to use in the kitchen and what they are good for. There are a number of recipes that I make at least once a week, such as the life-changing bread and the green galaxy smoothie bowl. Want to plan a veggie day more often? Then this book should not be missing from your bookshelf.
