For everyone who doesn't want to go to Bali or Ibiza...

(6x really original holiday destinations)

Yeah, we know the ‘I'm going to Bali’ story by now. Wow, we're going to Ibiza then? Original is also, eh, different. And I'm not going to play the holy bean, because we dear people are all herd animals when it comes to traveling. If a place is hot, we want to go there. And that's fine, but this way we forget a lot of gems in the world.

So it's time to broaden the horizon. Literally. Still looking for an original holiday destination where you can't order a croquette sandwich? Great, then read on.

Tanzania

Okay, so I went googling and I genuinely wonder why on earth I've never been to Tanzania. It's the perfect destination to escape from everything for a while. You have A: insane beaches, you can B: brilliant snorkel in the azure blue sea, you have C: always good weather and D: the hotels are so beautiful that you are obliged to look for a round.

Goa

Looking for relaxation, adventure, and culture? Goa has been India's most popular beach destination for years for a reason. Goa is known for its wide sandy beaches, warm seawater, exotic delicacies, and the welcoming local population. Spot turtles and elephants during a boat trip on the Periyar Lake, visit the Ajuna Flea Market or one of the many dance parties. Think sun, hippie vibe, nice beach shacks, ladies in colorful saris, and coziness.

Chile

Because Chile runs in such a narrow strip (a whopping 4275 kilometers long), the country has an extremely diverse nature. From enormous glaciers and icy lakes to sleeping volcanoes and the driest desert in the world. In fact: in summer, parties go on deep into the night and in winter, people ski. Go to Easter Island (seems to me really the shit), Punta Arenas (the city where more penguins live than people), learn salsa dancing, and stroll through the alleys of the capital Santiago de Chile.

Palm Springs

If you want to walk the beaten paths in the United States, I suggest you head to New York. Read here but how I felt about that. Or Los Angeles, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Want to do something different for once? Then you go to Palm Springs. An oasis in the desert with beautiful fan palms and lots of greenery. Choose the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to reach San Jacinto Peak for the really nice holiday pictures. Just be aware of the season in which you go, because in summer it can get blisteringly hot (read: 50 degrees).

Tibet

Anyone traveling through Tibet doesn't really expect a luxury vacation, so I've heard. But in any case, the land of the Dalai Lama will make a big impression on you. The bizarre landscapes, dizzying heights, temperature differences, the religious character, and the friendly Tibetans are not something you'll forget quickly. Get to know a completely different culture than the one we are used to in the hectic West.

Bolivia

It might not come to mind quickly, but why not? I know a few people who have been there and thought it was absolutely amazing. Bolivia may be the poorest country in South America, but it is incredibly rich in cultural gems. After a few days of soaking up culture, you head into the jungle of Bolivia. Go on a water safari through the Amazon, spot immense crocodiles and anacondas, cast your line for a piranha, and swim with rare pink river dolphins. Do something crazy!
